Kage and Yashiro would NEVER have worked out. Yashiro was able to fall in love with him because of Kage's relative naivity - he's way too normal for Yashiro. He wouldn't devote himself entirely to Yashiro, and it's that complete, engulfing, unconditional love that makes Doumeki so good for someone as damaged as Yashiro.
The great thing about Kageyama is that Yashiro was able to love him from a distance - he would never have been able to feel that emotion at all if it wasn't for him. So yeah, I love Yashiro and I wish he could have found happiness in his teenage years, but he didn't and I don't think we can blame Kageyama for that :(

I just thought of something else - (spending time thinking about yaoi while washing dishes is productive right?) - but a few characters have commented on how Yashiro has calmed down a bit as he's gotten older (in regards to his masochistic sexual endeavours). I don't think he's been mature enough to handle a normal relationship until now. And when we compare how his teenage/pre-Yakuza character is with his mid-30s character, there is a massive difference in maturity. Just compare how he treated Kageyama when his father died (wanking off to his pain) with how he treats Doumeki and his situation with his sister (with considerable sensitivity). [[Yeah he got hard at Doumeki's angry face but he is still a masochistic pervert so ya know.]]
Yoneda Kou is such a genius guys :( I've never read any yaoi that even comes close to complexity of hers. I could talk about them forever.

I'm not completely averse to rape as long as it doesn't glorify it. This oneshot is psychological, the character is disturbed; you're not supposed to agree with his actions. It's those mangas which have the theme of "YOUR MOUTH IS SAYING NO BUT YOUR BODY IS SAYING YES ;]" and somehow readers think it's super romantic which really leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Characters who have a fucked up relationship and the reader is supposed to acknowledge that it is fucked up = okay in my book.
Characters who have a fucked up relationship that is supposed to be adorable/sexy = not okay. I don't like reading those ones; and I also think it's just a really shitty, overused trope in yaoi. I can't think of one manga that does this that I've enjoyed.

Totally agree with you!
It's so hard to put into words!
But your equation pretty much describes my feelings on it:
Rape = just a normal way to get someone to like you. and for some reason it's not a big deal
no
Rape = messed up, forceful thing that makes you aware that what's happening is not ok, but it actually helps with plot development or creates a dynamic and different kind of story
yes (but only in a freaking story)
This manga was so utterly twisted and depressing and beautiful. I loved it and I hated it. I loved the ending because it wouldn't have been in keeping with the story if they'd had a happy ever after but I hated it because I feel like the characters deserved it. I'm so sad. It was heartbreaking.
