From a writer’s perspective, you don’t generally want to escalate the story so quickly because it looks ramshackle and too sudden, you want to at least give some foreshadowing or build up to it so it feels more realistic. And if you /do/ for some reason raise it super quick, immediately descalating by taking it away again without consequence basically negates any point of giving it in the first place. It’s just poor writing, when I had really high hopes for a cute, well written storyline where a fat character gets appreciated instead of stereotyped and an abused character gets the love they deserve. But oh well, such is life.
