i’ve been reading this manhwa for a while now and i’m in love, but i really can’t figure it out are they in middle school or high school

-Jian Yi disappears on the first day of HS. He returns 3-4 years later when Zhan has completed it and is living on his own and going to college.
-Whatever happened to Jian Yi he was not able to complete even his HS education or contact Zhan at all for 3-4 years and must play catch up with both his schooling and relationship with Zhan. Another clue they are still kids: adult Jian Yi drinks and smokes and currently we see he does not.
-He claims some big men in black took him away to an island but it’s entirely possible he is lying or omitting information to protect Zhan or hide what happened to him.
-It could mean nothing but there is official artwork of Jian Yi naked and holding a bloody knife. We also see him in a chapter visiting Zhan and he looks beat and bloodied up.
