Bruh he killed the parents, and he wants kids?!

This manhwa has some serious pacing issues.
2-3 chapters were just dedicated to sol *what a surprise* appointed as chief (when you know he will become a king)
How many chapters were dedicated for rebellion? Surprise surprise you already know it was going to be a great nation! The villain on this season was not even interesting, he was just…. There….

You know the other manhwa that has the 1st chapter said “how did it even get here”? thats just plot alphabet J in 1/8 panels. At least then you can learn slowly what happen from A to J alphabetically.

This manhwa though: A whole season is like telling you about plot A to J, when you already know what happen from K to Y alphabetically. Plot Z is literally becoming so inconsequential that you forgot what happens in plot K to Y anymore.
Pulling off these plot structures are not easy and I can already see that the payoff for season 2 will not be that great and it’s used to set up plot Y. Which I dont even remember or become care anymore, it is just painful to read

Then this manhwa isn't for you then. It's best you drop it if you can't handle slowburns. How its been established, the politics was always there since Chapter 1. That isn't anything new. If you take out the long boring bits, the manhwa falls apart and becomes a really uninteresting bl story. So, because politics is one of the supporting plot points, its essential to the story telling, hence why you find it drawn out and painful to read. Could some of it been sped up? Sure, but it wasn't. So just take what the author hands you and try to understand their vision and why they do things. If you can't remember or care about the previous chapters, then you wasn't as invested in the story than you thought you were. Plus, it is a reincarnation based story, so the whole "start at K to Y, then get thrown back to A to J, to understand Z" was bound to happen.

IDK I mean I see you guys' frustration, but I don't get why y'all need to reiterate your stance every week like a plague if it won't change how the author chooses to write their story. If the manhwa isn't serving you anymore, then comment once and drop it or come back later. You guys make it hard for other people to enjoy the story and talk about plot.

No, you missed my points. The characters suffer their own development because of this structure. It will be better if season 2 was the season 1, because then at least Ian was not outshined by brian. But then Ian will suffer the same fate anyway even if you turned it around.
Which is why reincarnation/(before regression) story was never told in extensive length. You will see my point when you read another manhwa called ‘my s class hunters’. Its a mysteries stories peeled one after the other.

Its painful to read for me because it can be better. It was just because of the structure, the characters falls apart. What should have become interesting politics become inconsequential because you already know anyway what will happen. Because of it, you dont feel the stake, you dont root for the characters anymore. Its just ‘oh yeah so thats it?’, you feel empty you know what I mean?

    Frenzy January 9, 2024 11:30 am

Its the same with the last of us 2 (iykyk). That one is hard to pull off correctly, but they kinda manage to do it, because they have 2 different perspective and 2 different characters. Brian and Ian though not so much.

I suppose we have to disagree to agree for one another.

No, you missed my points. The characters suffer their own development because of this structure. It will be better if season 2 was the season 1, because then at least Ian was not outshined by brian. But then Ia... Frenzy

I see. That's the disconnect. I don't feel like Ian is being outshined or forgotten by Brian. How I interpret the story and the pacing, it actually makes me excited to see how Ian would overcome feeling like Brian's replacement, or that he and Brian are connected, when he doesn't yet fully understand what's going on once we get back from the past. I find it interesting that Haejin chose this route to tell the story. I can see them setting up the problem (Ian's past as a child struggling with defining himself and the "cursed" power he possesses. Being targeted by two brothers which he doesn't yet know the relation between the two. Then trying to find out the truth while getting run-around answers). How the author handled things worked because a lot of people established a connection with the author's character enough to care that he maybe being neglected by the author.

Y'all need to keep rooting for Ian. He is more than capable of having character growth even with how Brian was presented. Heck the first panel of Eternal Covenant Prologue was a picture of Brian with Ian then saying he had wished to be content with his current life to even feel like he was reborn(in a good way). But because his life, especially in childhood, was so rough he his wish waivered and now he believes that being reborn must be a sin or something bad based off the past especially if the rebirth results in more suffering in future lives. This was all in Chapter 0.1 btw. I'm just not pulling something from my butt.

I say all that to say this. That's why I feel like the author isn't really doing anything wrong. I don't know how to explain it any better, but I feel like we were told from the get-go this is going to be a story with a character exploring the philosophy of being reborn (as well as other key points). I feel like we wouldn't be able to understand Ian's frustrations with rebirth/reincarnation as easily if the past with Brian and Sol had came first. If everyone one is so pissed off like Ian is (because of feeling like a replacement or feeling less than who he is/not being valued for who he is), then it shows that the author was successful at executing an established connection between Ian and the readers well.

I just think if you have problems with the pacing, it stems from impatience and not understanding what the author is trying to do. The story isn't even done, yet. We have yet to see how Ian navigates this hardship.

Thank you so much for your very long explanation Tianerose!

Yes I agree with your points, and it also makes sense that the story was told in this way if it was to make you frustate about Ian situation (him not happy being reincarnated)

I guess my other main gripe was, first season action action action; politics was kinda.. meh (am I allowed to say that ) irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, because “main characters” clashed like Romeo Juliet and the villain (the brother), so things have to be interesting for the background.

And then season 2 was like bam, politics was… kinda relevant? Maybe…? Genre was shifted from action to game of thronesesque? But, since season 1 was set up with main characters were more important; Season 2 side characters (including season 1 were like forgotten), villains, politics become like, does it matter though?

I dont really know how to clearly explain it (I am not a literature kind of guy), what I can say is that the author in my opinion is fumbling with their storyboard (settings and what at stake for each acts), and it shows in their way of storytelling. It is not the impatience, just disappointed and sad with how it turns out for the characters and the story. Maybe I expected too much from an author who wrote their 2nd book, (expectation level: Togashi’s - Hunter x Hunter, yu yu hakusho side characters and villains for a BL comic

    Frenzy January 12, 2024 1:24 am

Oh my word I dont know what happen to my reply it cut my explanation short ╥﹏╥ thank goodness I copied first.

But yeah enough debate, I agree with your arguments Tiane and let us see how it goes from here and enjoy it instead of raising expectation
