i happened to read the novel and it said that eclis actually know that penelope is using him and he'll betray her. he'll die protecting penelope from the dragon's claws and years later after the war ended penelope found him with memory loss he didn't know where he belongs to then penelope pointed the direction where he should go i think it's the north(?) and maybe that's what u mean by him reuniting with the peoole from his old kingdom
