What a wonderful read, it's rare that I like both protagonists equally, but golden retriever seme and outwardly stoic, inwardly soft uke is totally my type. I also enjoyed that there was conflict, but it never felt prolonged or melodramatic. In any other story, you know Muyeong’s ex would’ve shown up to complicate things between him and Seonho, or his grandmother would’ve forced them to break up. I guess my one minor grievance is that I was kind of hoping to see Junseok apologize, or just...face any kind of consequence for his actions. I quite liked his character at the beginning and was shattered when he got in the accident, but the emotional manipulation was NOT okay. Using suicide as a means of control is not something you do to someone you claim to love, and I think Muyeong would’ve been totally justified in cutting him out of his life.
Aside from that, it was such a soft, compelling, satisfying story. The way they so openly expressed their love was immensely refreshing. This will definitely go down as one of my new favorites.
I have a deep sense of foreboding that Director Kang and Yiyoung aren't going to be on the same page here (or that Director Kang will convince himself he doesn't have romantic feelings...or at the very least pretend not to) and I want nothing more than those expectations to be subverted! this story has already fooled me once, and I'm more than happy for it to do so again. honestly, bring on the fluff!
I find this story so compelling because the three main protagonists are flawed but still likable. Taku's motives are highly questionable, Joowon's possessive streak is worrying, and then there's Haesoo, trampling over people's feelings to numb any trace of emotional unrest inside himself. Even so, I don't hate any of them (...yet). I don't know where my bias is leaning (maybe for them all to separate and do some soul searching lol), but I'm excited to see how the story progresses.
I started reading this a while ago and stopped after the first chapter because I thought it wasn't my taste. I'm SO GLAD I decided to give it another try!! The characters are all unfolding in the most endearing way and I can't wait to see how the relationship progresses. Also, this is neither positive or negative, but the Director REALLY reminds me of Mr. Big from Sex and the City. I don't know if that was intentional or not. Probably not. But they totally have the same eyebrows.
As much as I love this manga, I feel like it's been ongoing way too long for Shun and Mio to not have progressed further in their relationship. Moving in with Shun's family has made their communication worse, and they didn't have good communication skills to begin with. They both have a lot of baggage, and as much as I do think they truly love each other, they're really kind of abysmal at expressing it. Shun, especially. At this rate it seems like we're heading for the relationship slowly fizzing out until they part ways. And maybe that's the point, for them to fall apart, learn from their mistakes, and reconvene.
I don't know, I just think there is SO MUCH still left to resolve with these two that focusing on Fumi makes no sense. He's cute and all, but he's not why I read this manga.
I would be okay with the story straying from them if I felt like their relationship had been mostly resolved, but it hasn't at all. If anything, Shun seems mildly annoyed by Mio's presence. I understand that is a dynamic you see in relationships at times (especially fictional ones), but they're usually coupled with sweet, sincere moments so both parties know the banter is just light-hearted teasing. You don't really get that here, unless it's internal monologues. I don't know, as Shun and Mio are now, they seem like they're each other's emotional crutches, instead of actually in love. So...not really in a place for their story to be put on hold for some angsty teenage pining haha.
I think that there at that point in their relationship where since they have been together for so long the passion they once felt is not burning at bright as it used to, they still love each other but maybe they are bored with how passive things are right now and just need something that can help spark their relationship
It it seems they're in this stage plus Shun is depressed and you can see that it has been slowly eating him alive, but I agree with OP that they should be the focus; if their relationship is staged I want to see them trying to solve it! But all we know after the time skip is that they're still together and then the focus has been on Fumi that, no offense, I'm not interested in, he's a great secondary character and 1 chapter focused on him should have been enough, but we're still at in and I really don't care if he's gonna get over his crush for Sakurako or still pinning.
It's clear to me that Nemu sees himself as the less desirable of the pair--as the one who has more to lose--and this hinders him from asserting his needs with too much fervor. He might get angry with Maya but it's never for long, and I'm concerned Maya isn't really learning anything from these brief exchanges.
It's painful to witness. Nemu as the one who sees himself as less attractive, less personable, who is less experienced and--let's not forget--was raped by Maya at the onset of everything. I don't think Maya means to be malicious towards him, but their relationship imbalance isn't healthy and it's going to combust if something (someone...) doesn't change.
yeah, i agree but also, while maya has obviously grown up from how he used to be, i still think he doesn't always understand nemu. which is understandable, but he probably should have known just from nemu's personality, that he would be worried if maya snuck off in the middle of the night, and proceeded to lie about where he had gone. which makes it into a big deal when it really wasn't.
I think at this point, Maya isn't considering Nemu's personality and how to maturely and respectfully confront their conflicts as much as he's worried about how to "deal" with Nemu. Easier to try to hide things he knows might upset Nemu than to have a (possibly uncomfortable) conversation about it. The former takes more work, but it's essential for a strong long-term relationship. Hopefully, they get there in the end.
It's appropriate that the chapter was about Christmas, because I felt like it was Christmas morning when I saw the update in my notifs! This story is soooo endlessly cute. We all need this kind of good pure fluff right now.
