I don't like authors making their MCs this way, being a damsel in distress. You can take it as victim blaming, but in my mind rather than "why is he this way" it's more "why is he made this way" cause he's fictional. He's naive not because he's nice, he's naive because author makes it that way for plot device which I don't like. Being a nice character doesn't mean they have to be naive too. Author could make him any other way that can still highlight his niceness, but he had to be this way so we can see ml save him from harm I hate it.
