I don’t think that’s it. I related to him, as I have severe anxiety that stops me from apologizing or speaking my mind. It’s not a full on excuse, like Mitsumi or anyone else for that matter doesn’t have to put up with if they don’t want to - that’s their choice. But when you have had certain experiences that have basically traumatized you, it’s not always easy. To deal with it you put up a facade, which is mostly so you don’t burden others with your problems. The psyche behind any kind of anxiety is very multi-layered, and I feel this mangaka has done a fabulous job showcasing the varying different kinds in different people.
