ngl i read this as a kid and then you grow up and realize how weird it is. total step sibling romance and it never truly gets over how yeah its romanticized incest. yeah they're not related but idc if you like someone and want to fuck someone who is considered your sibling by law and socially. that's still weird as fuck to me lmao bc i could never see my siblings that way and much less my step siblings, so i never liked or understood the trope of fucking your step siblings
ngl i think this series is best enjoyed if you go in with the idea that they both want jesse and he doesn't want either. at least for me, this is the funniest bisexual nightmare
That's basically what it is, they both want him as their personal priest, as their life partner, they refuse marriage and would rather be with Jesse, they go to the ball together because they can't both go together with him, they become friendly for the sake of Jesse's happiness, they are both jealous of Jesse being close to the other but they become allies whenever Jesse gets close to someone else too, it's so… uuugh, they love him so much
Man, this series is a lot. but I gotta say I love how they depict atonement. it's brutal and it's so honest.
We know why. Seth was SAed by his brother and blackmailed into sleeping with him. He was so afraid of Osiris coming back that he slaughtered so many people. He felt the resentment towards his sister/wife and his son Anubis that the souls he took resembled them. His fear made those weapons and curses.
And we see the perspective of all the people who's lives were terrible and dehumanizing because of Seth. His guilt was drowning him, but his fear of Osiris was stronger than his guilt.
And it's so brutal to see, but I think it's necessary and I think it makes Seth actually atone for the things he's done. He's a kind guardian god, but that man no longer existed when life became more complicated.
love so good its yaoi. idc but thats just how it is and i can explain why but it makes me sound insane so you're just going to have to believe me without hearing me go insane
jokes aside, i really ended up loving them and seeing them fall in love. like yea kirishima is insane and has issues, but seeing a boy who has felt lust (a victim bro) but now he's actually feeling true romantic love. from someone who's like him. something the girls he's messed with don't have.
they don't love him and he doesn't love them. they don't understand him nor do they truly know him. and he has no desire to let them in. but for yoshino, he lets her see it all. and while they didn't get along at first, she accepted him for what she saw. all of him.
like there's something so wholesome about their love despite everything lmao im obsessed with them bc they're so good together.
ngl i don't think i've ever seen any BL series be confident enough to actually mislead the audience with a false male lead AND then give us an actual compelling love story between the real male lead that takes over 50 chapters of development. like i didn't think much of henry at first, but then he slowly started showing up more and then BOOM. he saves Jimmy and lets him room with him. That's when it occurred to me that he was the real love interest all along because the story rejected Jimmy with Taylor. (as it should, i had me worried that taylor was gonna be our endgame lmao)
like i can't wrap my head around it, i was genuinely surprised and I actually really like that the story naturally developed like it did. I like Jimmy and Henry have got to be one of my favorite BL couple of all time, they were super compelling characters who actually felt like they were falling in love over time (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
i know this stories certainly has its flaws, but i think genuinely this is one of my favorite BL I have ever read. By the end, the beauty of genuine love is probably one of the best depiction I've seen from yaoi. And by that I mean a mlm story with sex included. A lot of them don't really focus on the reality of being gay and what it feels like to love and make up. I know this genre isn't even remotely about the authentic experience, but man is it always so great to see the characters actually tackle reality.
And people have mixed opinions about Anh Jiwon, but to me he's so relatable. He was forced to be perfect his entire life. People never liked the real him, they loved the mask he put on. He started as a BJ because people loved his mask so much. He was isolated and never actually had anyone dear to him. The one person he let in, betrayed him. Then he found Donggyun. And to me, the quote that always hit me the hardest was when in chapter 70 Jiwon said:
"If only Nam Donggyun and I had met in high school...maybe we would have less emotional wounds."
at the end of the day, these are two guys who were hurt by their past experiences because they're both queer men. And to see them so in love by the end and how throughout the story they've made peace with their lives, it's amazing. I haven't read a series that has done this so well, while keeping the sex great (always a great bonus).
And something random, maybe I just haven't read enough manhwa about college, but I haven't seen a lot deal with men who go to college, do their required military training, and then come back to college. or even touch on the topic at all, because it is something that actually happens. Like K-pop idols usually do it when they turn 30, usually well into their career and pushing it off until the last possible moment. Actors/Models/Other influential figures usually do it when they turn 20 (legal adult) to get it out of the way before their career really picks up. And some men who go to college, do it inbetween the years, go do it, and then finish their last few years (usually their junior/senior year) when they come back 2 years later.
just thought it was kinda interesting and made this feel a little more real. And it made then actually feel like real men and grounds them in reality.
