Okay, I'll try my best to explain so sorry if it isn't the best uwu
During the past life Lamia and Aquila were together but she died of some unknown cause. To make her live again, Aquila turned back time.
So, in order to ensure that her death wouldn't come, he injured Uri (her brother) hand and planned to kill her father as well (but that didnt happen) so that Uri could become Duke and Lamia wouldn't become the duchess (to repeat the past)
Right now, they are in the middle of the Duke Succesion ceremony and basically Lamia is getting confused by the way Aquila acts with her (all soft and puppy like) and what he did to Uri.

I cant be too sure but I think Aquila (ML) is only nice to Lamia and his mother due to reasons (eg. Being condemned by other people) so I think you are right. Although there might be something more to it
