I definitely don't think something like this should be such a big deal in a relationship. Advancing in your career is a good thing and no matter how much you love them, don't let your partner hold you back, you can still see each other after the career change. BUT. this is fictional. He is constantly pulling away from Yanase. So I'm afraid that if he does move to the other company, he's going to avoid Yanase more. He's constantly so close to killing his relationship so he's lucky Yanase IS so stubborn and immature. Yes career matters, but maybe they wouldn't be so distracted with each other if they actually saw each other more.

this isn't a particularly dark story but it could probably have the psychological genre. they both have emotionally abusive parents that left deep scars on them. it even affected both of them in the way they have relationships. i think that kasumi would have never fallen in love with shiina if his parents didnt make him feel worthless. his horrible idea of self-worth i think made him really latch onto shiina because he was so kind and thoughtful when they were young. with shiina its a bit worse. he constantly puts his happiness second. until kasumi came along, he had such low confidence in his art and felt like unless he was the best he wasn't good enough. and then he had internalized homophobia thanks to his father. the way he seemed to finally be at peace when he heard his mother say he couldve been in love with that boy was beautiful, but then his father squashed that. he loved his father too i think which is why he left such an impression on everything he thinks. he really does seriously hurt the people he cares about because he thinks of himself as wrong. and no, they couldnt have had a simple conversation especially the first time he confessed when they were so young. doesn't japan lack in proper mental health education? i'm sure neither of them realized the emotional abuse their parents put them through and how that changed their mindset. they wouldnt even know what to talk about if they tried. idk this could all be bullshit cause honestly its late and i can barely think right now, but this was just so sad. and even in real life, there are people who think like this and ruin their own happiness.
