i started rereading from ch1 and oh my god of course he couldn't leave yuri alone she is just as emotionally unstable in such similar ways as his mom is (without the extreme angry mood swings and physical abuse) he probably went into fawning (as in fight. flight freeze, fawn the four trauma reactions) mode instinctively as parentified children tend to do. this is so well written.
Omg Σ(っ°Д °;)っ… that’s a great observation, I didn’t even think about that!! In an odd way I think Yuri is kind of healing to him though because she can recognize when she does “wrong” and acknowledges it. (Vs his mother that stayed immature)
Some people say finding a partner include checking if y’all trauma can work/be managed well together ƪ( ̄▽ ̄)ʃ so maybe they’re a good example of that.

The way she says "you know you cant overpower me" while she's beating Teppei is so fucking chilling. My mom stopped pysically abusing me when I was strong enough to fight back, and it really is something to hear the quiet part said out loud like that. They hit us when we're small because they can, I guess.
the perfect encapsulation of a bittersweet first love
