I dunno maybe bcs I keep reading that I find him somewhat okay especially during MC's birthday scene where he hugs her. There are other neglecting father that are far worse than him that doesn't deserve redemption imo, like Karnon from the villainess wants to live virtuously

I also pushed through simply because I had some spoilers I knew. Also, not that it excused it, but from what I remember, dad didn't want to get attached because females born in the family die young. The moment still hurt though especially with MC hearing and remembering it.

Emperor is trash that's all I see, he makes me not want to read this and that's okay, do not pardon this behavior he is not good father not good person, even with redemption he can't take back words he said easily because he started genuinely loving her, that means she needed to show him she's not useless for him to care and change, she needed to "open his cold heart" and not other way around, absolutely disgusting when you know he loves her mother but his own child? I'm sorry if I sound dramatic but I just don't see appeal in this kind of genre and how common it is, it's giving father complex, daddy issues, it's not toxic romance, enemies to lovers "cold handsome powerful man changes for you" genre but those authors want these elements and they don't care if it's in family settings, does it not scream daddy issues? Why would you want your father to act like dick but change for you otherwise

Chill man this is how you know you've been reading this kinda shit too much you need to step back and not let the emotion over a fictional story get the best of you. Been there done that, for me I also have other stories I cannot keep on reading no matter how redeemable the shitty ML / father / family, so what I did is to unsub, forget it for a couple of months until my disdain has subsided, reread it again, and if it still anger you go on and read other stories which, I think are much shittier than this. The give me back my pacifier manhwa is one example where I absolutely cannot excuse how the uncle and grandfather neglect a fucking infant for almost a year, no changing diaper no food no nanny at all she had to be almost eaten by a griffin to survive. It angered me so much and I paused reading it and decided to pick it up again (skipping some chapters ofc I still hate Charente) but the angst still keeps me going yakno. So if this is not your cup of tea I get it but then by now you'd probably complain to almost 70% of the isekai manhwas in this website because there's so many more shittier stuff than this ╮(￣▽￣)╭

I think the explanation of others is a bit lacking. Here, I'll try to understand why he is like that.

Simply because of his upbringing. He, couldn't understand his own feeling. And he is apparently a big tsundere that cannot express his love. The empress, however, can understand him thus the emperor loves her a lot. Later it was indicated that after that day the emperor said those bad words, the empress is sulking and the emperor ended up apologizing for days.

Here's the thing, the emperor actually felt angry and hurt when he heard the princess has been born that way. But this grown up ass man that has never been taught how to understand his own feeling as a parent, detected the emotion as just a simple "irritated" and "uncomfortable". Thus saying things that his parents back in the day would say to him/any other children they have.

I'm not exactly defending him, but he was never a bad person to begin with. He is a very, very awkward man. The reason why he was redeemable was because we later know that he is not as bad as what was potrayed on the 1st chapter. He is not the best father but he certainly didn't continue to be a bad father.

I understand you must think "a grown ass man being so childish" but, everyone makes mistake actually. That's part of the characteristics of the said character. For example I have a father that often said hurtful words. Calling me "fat ugly useless daughter" but aside from that, the hands he use to hug and pat me is very gentle. The things he had done for me is immense, and I've never asked for another father. In the end, the MC will feel this way as she also forgives her father.

I hope this can explain a bit why people still continue this despite the irritating 1st chapter. If yiu are somewhat convinced, and if you'd like to, I would recommend you to continue reading because the MC is very endearing throughout the story!

The parent in this manhwa didn't play a big role in raising her tho, as like any other royalty manhwa, they couldn't be present as they are very, very busy. Constantly going to business trips and such. But nevertheless the MC is seeking for their love and they are doing what they can to love the MC. Not that much screentime though.
