Let’s hopefully not get heated over the mom vs baby choice. In the end both the baby and mom are okay. While choosing the mom is technically denying the baby their life, choosing the baby is also the same as denying the mom their life. (If it was forced upon)
Many may argue that the baby has no choice in the matter but at the very least it is not aware/conscious. On the other hand the mom is obviously conscious and would therefore be aware that they are giving up their life. Humans tend to cling to survival instincts which is completely natural. That’s why the surgeon gives people CHOICES.
It’s a very sensitive topic but this is a fictious story with fictious characters which do not amount to anything in real life. Personally (IMO) I wouldn’t want to be born knowing my mother died for me. But to each their own, is what I’m trying to say.
