The story is cute, but this is pedophilia. Though I know in Japan girls can get married at the age of 16 (with the approval of the parents), I just can't help but think of how bad this is >.<
It's a strongly culturally determined (like drinking alcohol etc), in Poland it is normal, I myself have a friend who was 16 and was meeting a guy of 23. I mean in my country pedophilia is connected with age below 15. But you don't see often couples with so big age gap. Anyway, in this manga I don't see this gap at all, mainly because Takane is sometimes such a kid... :D And they aren't getting married yet, they are just meeting each other.
No, it is not pedophilia. Pedophilia is a person whose primary or exclusive sexual interest is having sex with children who are not sexually mature (ie, pre-puberty). Ephebophilia is sexual desire for those who are minors, but past puberty (ie, they are sexually mature). Historically, girls past-puberty could marry and have children, so were not considered children. In our cultures in the modernized countries, we tend to put off marriage later and later. And we see it as skeevy when an adult male goes after teen girls (and call it statutory rape in some cases).
In this manga, his interest is not principally in teens. He just happened to begin to develop an interest in THIS teen. Depicting him as childish in ways and her mature in ways makes them a bit more even in scope. He's not after her to jump her bones. He has not jumped her: she jumped his lips, actually. So, while he has emotional feelings for her, he isn't taking sexual advantage. And if they wished to marry, legally, she is of age where, with parental support, there would be no scandal or transgression of law.
To call this character a pedophile is pretty insulting to the actual reality of pedophilia.
