He's just being honest, that's actually nice of him. He likes Arsenio romantically as a female, and treasure him platonically as a male. Not everyone can be pan, and sexuality is not a choice. I think it's really good that Sauro knows what he want.
I think most people are more weirded out about how left field this seems. It doesn’t feel and match what we’ve heard and seen from Sauro’s character that he would suddenly leave and only love Arsenio as a women. It feels like the author underestimated how much people would Sauro and Arsenio and just kind of did a cop out and made him go away so the endgame could still happen.
I don’t particularly hate the turn itself but it just feels very left field and out of character. It’s like they’re trying to justify Rei’s character being in the story in the first place by trying to make the person who made her obsolete go away.
