Many might disagree with my liking towards this story, and for the reason being the rape parts. But the difference between this and other stories is that it isn’t done to romanticize or fetish for the sake enjoying sex scenes, it’s done for the sake of the plot. The whole plot of this story is that he (our mc) has to make the choice to sell out his body for the sake of his younger brother and pay back his fathers debt. In fact, it adds to the characters and shows us how they think and react to situations like this and how it affects them later on. I won’t disagree with Taeju being an asshole in the beginning, in fact I really despised him. But we get to see how that part of his character was affected mentally, and we got to see his redemption arc by having him face the horrors of the situation he had created for euihyun and himself and that sent him into many mental breakdowns and having to face the reality that he has hurt euihyun over and over again for the sake of his own benefit and not seeing how truly terrifying that situation is for people like euihyun. Having to depend on selling your body to one person, having to wait till they are in the mood or suffer days on end of continuous sex to make ends meet for your younger brother and yourself? Truly terrifying. I enjoyed his redemption arc and I’m proud of how he has come this far. In no way does this redemption arc excuse his actions, and he is very well aware of that fact, but he is trying for euihyun and the little one. He is not trying to override the past but he is trying to show he has changed and really deeply cares for the two. He has changed in many ways that other characters in other stories can’t. Taeju at the beginning and him now are completely two different people and I’m content with the ways things have played out for them (especially taeju) If taeju ever meet his past self, oh lord he would GO JUMP HIM.
Also to add, I disagree with the whole quo of immediately bashing a story because it has triggering themes. Before you bash on medias like this think, why was this added? How or what does it add to the story? Does it make sense?
You have to understand the main theme of the story to fully understand why those themes were added. I’ve read many other stories that have tried to do what this manwha could but could not due to many factors like being out of touch, romanticizing rape, etc. and I’d like to say this story is not that.
