But all this misinformation about corsetry kinda piss me off.

    Tracki12 November 25, 2020 3:22 am

Corsets may not "kill" a person but they did cause organ shifting (if worn while young until late adulthood) and can be too restricting so they are annoying to wear. I wear a modern day corset every now and again and I would rather wear my bra for 3 days straight than be in one for more than 5 hours.

Also the scribe who passed out, said she passed out from exhaustion and period cramps. Yuri (being from the modern era), probably thinks about corsets the same as any average person, they sucked.

Ah, the famous shifting organs legend... It's lovely to see 19th century propaganda still thriving to the present days...
So, I'm not confidence enough in my english writing to go on thoughtfully on this subject.
If someone is curious about the reality of corsetry throughout history I'll leave some links:

From my understanding of the first video, she did not refute that wearing a corset from childhood to adulthood for lengthy periods of time could cause skeletal shifting (bones would go back over time if the corset was not worn, but I assume women wore their corsets too often to allow ample time to reshift), but you are correct that I was wrong (lol this sentence) and that it probably did not shift organs.

But, what I was really curious about what are the exact complaints about corsets that you saw in the comic that made you make your first post? Yuri has made comments about the comfort of corsets, but I do not recall her making any scientific/health claims? Could you provided a few sourced examples?

Umm... If the corset really shifted bones then there must be some remains left to prove that.right?
But there I no "remains" of women from that era to prove that corsets had those effects.
And also corsets were not worn on bare skin like period actresses do now a days
From my knowledge corsets have the same purpose as bras would now.
Corsetry and tight lacing are different things.
Wearing a corset was for support and tight lacing was for the figure.
So saying that the scribe fainted due to the corset is incorrect.
She probably fainted due to fatigue and her maybe due to period pains and the tight lacing could have made it worse.
And again all my knowledge is from youtube videos only so I might be wrong too (=・ω・=)

Okay so I wanted to try looking into this because I thought it was interesting.
Firstly, in the story the scribe actually states that she fainted due to menstrual pains - which in conjunction with standing in heels all day, no being able to use the restroom, and having to keep her arms elevated above her head, it makes some sense that she would be strained to the point of fainting. As far as I know from what I looked into, corsets DO restrict breathing somewhat, as they put pressure on the lower lobes of the lungs. When you pass out it's due to the lack of oxygen reaching the brain - and being in pain can stimulate this. So it is highly probable for someone to pass out from a corset - maybe not directly, but it can exacerbate any already existing issues with O2 reaching the brain.
Some additional medical issues that can result from tightlacing are constipation/indigestion and muscle or organ atrophy/weakness (though these seem to be from tightlacing for long periods of time). (●'◡'●)
