Bronte keeps on pissing me off, again and again. For example, visiting the man who kidnapped you in your sleep and tried to rape you – what the actual fuck? Get some freaking back bone and respect and value yourself. If you don't, who else will? (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸
She even marries him… I've never been more pissed off with this manga, which likes to send the message "Do absolutely everything for the man you love. Sacrifice yourself, your life, body and soul to conniving little shits who'll use you, your body and heart; manipulate and humiliate you; all for the man you love. That's 'true love', folks!".
The story had potential that the author didn't use. I'm disappointed that she did not receive any closure with her father, her ex-fiancé nor ex-friend – not shown here, at least; the ending felt rushed and cliché. What type of resolution was that, for the MC? Why does she, the emotionally scarred and rejected, have to show love to people who aren't willing to care for her? What kind of message is that to readers? "Let people trample all over your heart and person – it's ok, you're showing them love, which makes you a stronger and better person" Really? #-.-)
The only proper closure for Danielle to have in regard to the flaming a**holes who betrayed her all her life is to tell them once, "You can all go to hell," and completely disappear from their lives. This god-awful concept some psychologists and fiction writers have that closure means making nice with a collection of gaslighting psychopaths has to be one of the most stupid ideas humans have ever come up with. It's the perfect example of the road to hell being paved with good intentions. Unfortunately, the person being put in hell is the victim who is supposed to make nice with the a**holes that are torturing them.
Love the story! Though, I wish Eunah wasn't as harsh towards Sin as she is; he does save her all the time, has she forgotten?
Also, manhwa as a comic style is quite tiring to read compared to manga; the endless scrolling, long distances between blocks and text, long pages, lots and lots of white… it gives me a headache from time to time because I read too quickly, it seems ( ̄∇ ̄")
Well, I don't think I could despise a male love interest more than I despise Kieron. Absolutely the most horrible and monstrous love interest I've read because he 1) lies about his agenda when meeting Briony, 2) investigates her without her knowledge or consent, 3) outs her, which leads to trial and her publicly shamed and life threatened, 4) believes a single letter will justify his actions, 5) doesn't search for her again to explain, 6) threatens to take her son from her for revenge, 7) openly flirts with another woman, 8) embarrasses her in front of others, 9) rejects and ridicules her and her feelings, and 10) whenever possible, he disrespects, mocks and minimises her – even lifting his hand against her.
I, for one, cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can likes this story. Kieron is despicable and the writer seems to find it okay to justify victim blame. Yes, he's a victim as well in his own rights; she, however, apologised for her behaviour towards him – he never did, and he wasn't the one to explain and share his past to her. The fact that he, still, finds it okay to have outed her and destroyed her life leaves me mind-blown and utterly furious. A manga I will never read again and never recommend to anyone!
I can't handle the depth and greatness of this manhwa… a piece of art with a powerful and true message that a majority of us need to take in and really reflect on.
Though, I wish we would've been given a scene where Ai and The Magician meet again. It could still have been an open ending; perhaps, they might just see each other from across the street?
