more specifically, when the duke brings her and her entire family to interrogate her she was literally badmouthing the duchess saying that she already had a fiance before the duke and how she probably ran away with him seeing how mad the duke looked
her parents begged for her life and slow ass audrey was like "whats happening" for a couple of secs (literally how is she and the duchess the same age)
the other servants and family members also bowed begging to save her life bc they knew she was gonna die (and they all family friends)
the duke said that when the duchess stayed at the house, she told him to be careful of people around him bc people betray for the stupidest reasons and the duke told the duchess not to worry bc he trusts everyone in this household
so basically he shared this story saying how he regrets telling her that and that she was right
the duke told audrey that he'll give her one chance for an excuse bc of her family's loyalty and how her parents basically raised him when his parents died
audrey, being the idiot she is, basically told him that he only kept looking at the duchess and how she loves him
so she died, by the hands of her older sister
the duke gave the sword to the father, but he kept begging him and the mother kept saying to kill her instead so the daughter saved both of them the pain
