In all honesty corsets were not as bad as people make it out to be. I like to compare it to high heels. Lots of ppl did it, it was uncomfortable for many but some ppl got used to it or didn't mind. Some took it to the extreme (think 8 inches or something) and some didn't do it at all. And some actually liked it. The issue comes when ppl were forced to wear it weather they wanted to or not.
Plus now a days some people buy cheap corsets online that doesn't have their correct sizes which can lead to bruising
Imagine it like a tight bra it squeezing your boobs so their flat imagine trying breath out of it this lead to many Ed that lead to women life span decreasing. This is nothing like high heals. Many women wore them to bed to shape their bodies also since their bodies aren’t made for this it started to shape their organs and make their lungs get closer together get their heart to smush and etc.

You can look it up anywhere the ribs would start to break organs will get smushed and it so that body is hard to function. If they wanted a thinner waist with the corset they would eat less and since the corset is so tight it would make it hard to eat a good amount of food.

They didn’t tighten them just a bit tho have you not seen women body after a corset it was not pretty and many women would buy smaller corset to make their waist smaller. The poor ppl wouldn’t have tighten as much but still tighten it they had to do house work all these things in something uncomfortable. The corset were hard not like the ones we have now. Also since they were already eating less they would start to die faster then noble women.
Those were either incorrectly fitted and/or never really taken off, corsets shouldn’t be worn every time as it’ll make your back dependent on them, and if corsets were bad, then why would victorian women climb mountains or even do sports? In the video she talked about how she has scoliosis and her brace was kinda like a corset. And I have scoliosis too so I know how it feels. When wearing a brace it’s had to do many things but okay enough I could do it. The corset are similar in shape but not made for shaping your waist but for your spine to shape in the correct position. And she said that in the video that both sides don’t actually know for a fact what corset were doing to the body but medical ppl were figuring it out so I looked off medical ppl and this what I found.

As an aside: corsets CAN reshape your ribs and redistribute the fat under your skin, even when the corset is removed, when worn over a very long period of time, but this is generally a temporary thing and must be maintained. If you stop waist training, your ribs will return to their natural position.
