Because I'm always on my phone/ipad reading manga, people sometimes ask me what I'm doing. So, I tell them I'm reading manga hoping they'll get confused and go away, but sometimes someone will be like, "oh which mangas do you like?" At this point, I start to freak out internally because I don't want to tell them that I read yaoi and have them think I'm weird. So I mention the first non-yaoi mangas that I can think of, usually that's Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, Kimi ni Todoke, Black Butler, Special A, or Aishiteruze Baby, all of which I haven't touched in years (all i ever read is yaoi, these are the rare times that i have ventured out of that genre). So, my question is what are your default non-yaoi mangas that you automatically mention when asked which mangas you like? Do you even do this or do you just not care that people might think you're weird? (I'm talking IRL here not on the internet)
I don't care, my friends are weird pervs too, they know about my love for hard gay sex and disgusting ero-guro shit. xD Maybe because i can't keep it as a secret. I MUST share everything i like with others. haha
Mine are also Black butler and Kaichou wa Maid-sama but I also say manga like All you need is kill (My current all time favorite), Until death do us part, and Dengeki Daisy. Most of this stuff I just try to stay updated on when they come out in the local Barnes and Noble. I totally go with nonyoai until the other person mentions one first, or until they mention something with smut like Midnight Secretary. In all fairness those who mention Black Butler are probably aware of the gay undertones. If they reply with things like "oh like bleach/naruto/One Piece." I tend to go yeah. I have nothing against them but they tend to be parents whose kids watch anime and that's what they're thinking of.
For me it's usually Shingeki no Kyojin, Tokyo Ghoul, Kuroshitsuji, Kuroko no Basuke, or Death Note, just because those are some the more popular manga and come to mind more quickly than any of the lesser-known (non-yaoi) manga that I've read. On the off chance that I'm actually reading something other than yaoi, then I'll just be honest with them, lol.
( ̄へ ̄)Well i have a best friend who's gay so that's not a problem we share manga sometimes (≧∀≦)but i do have some friends that would ask me what i was reading and so to avoid answering ( ̄∇ ̄") (because i get kinda shy ⁄(⁄ ⁄-⁄ω⁄-⁄ ⁄)⁄ around people who know me except my BF me and him are like family). Anyway to get them bored i would go into lengthy detail of a manga i already read or saw (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
My top ten to tell people i guess would be ( = ̄ ω ̄=) 1. Worlds Embryo 2. Fruit Basket 3. Haikyuu!! 4. V.B. Rose 5. Mahou Tsukai No Yume 6. Keishichou Tokuhanka 007 7. AI HIME - AI TO HIMEGOTO 8. Spice and Wolf 9. Horimiya 10. Kuroko no Basket or Komatta Toki Ni Wa Hoshi Ni Kike!
Yes i know that last one seems like Shouen Ai but IDGAF everyone knows i'm a avid reader and will read almost anything (except horror i dislike it alot ( ╥﹏╥; ).

But generally I don't read yaoi in front of other people, so it's not often a problem for me.
i just tell them straight out then show it to them lol. i would probably think twice if it's my parents though. they're not so open minded and they have the power to take my wifi away
I read yaoi like I do short series shoujo, basically to pass the time while I wait for my other mangas to come out. Although there are epic yaoi and shoujo, you gotta admit the majority is nothing too mind boggling so they're easy to breeze through. Therefore I do end up reading yaoi and shoujo like 90% of the time, lmao, mainly yaoi though. My manga reading list is literally filled with yaoi. To answer your question, I have friends who love yaoi like me but even to them I tell the truth which is that I am married to a few shoujos and mainly a lot of shounen, I try with seinen, wish there are more josei, and I read yaoi like I drink water. Long story short, I read a few genres in manga and don't find any difficulty telling people and randoms what my favorites among them are. HunterxHunter, Hikaru no Go, Haikyuu FTW and etc
I thaugh I was the only one who o that! When they ask me what I read I just something like One punch man, Black bird or whatever... I like Watching non-yaoi anime but I can only read Yaoi manga! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Yaoi is Pornographic which I read it at my private place only. I also read various kinds of manga too. So I don't have that kind of problem.
