i remember when i first read this i absolutely loved it and was hooked and coming back to finish reading it, i was kinda disappointed but also nostalgia kept me going.
this manga reminds me of pretty much everything i hate about yaoi manga. the borderline non consensual acts, the non stop sex and the little amount of actual plot.
there was also THOSE weird backstory scenes where both of main characters had a weird infatuation with adults..not to mention shirotanis was with his dad..and they did not make that line between family love and incest clear enough for me to differentiate if he had a crush on his father or he was just possessive of him.
i gave it 3 stars (my actual rating is 2 and 1/2. i wish i could give half stars on here) due to how i critique older yaoi. while i try to avoid older yaoi due to the horrible tropes, sometimes i will indulge in them to see if i can find any hidden gems. what ended up as a reread opened a lot of questions for my younger self like why did i like this.
i tried to indulge in this one...i tried so hard to like it but there were so many things that rubbed me the wrong way.
with better writing, this story had ALOT of potential like if kurose tried to resign to being shirotani’s therapist because he was beginning to have feelings for him and shirotani became confused. again, this story had so much potential and it been wasted on something that feels like fetish porn for germaphobes.
and by plot you mean sex scenes with dubious consent??..literally if you removed the sex scenes from the story there would barely be any development made and that includes in the actual relationship. i saw enough comments talking about the weird possessiveness shirotani has with his father to see that it isn’t just a me thing, multiple people found those scenes uncomfortable and everything point to shirotani having feelings for his father..the line between familiar and romantic feelings is not clear enough. same with kurose and the author..kurose was literally a child when he tried to throw himself at the author. weird how we already have two instances where children are being put in sexual situations involving adults.
also the plot does such a bad portrayal of misophobia to the point where kurose fetishizes shirotanis mental struggles CONSTANTLY. if there’s someone without critical thinking skills here is you.
okay so i see a lot of people debating on this and I wanted to add my hot take
from what i’ve seen chowon suffers from a mental illness (i am not sure which one). we can see this from his behavior to the fact that he takes meds for it. i don’t think i’m wrong to assume that this messes with his behavior and mental state.
shall we also consider that chowon’s relationships have all been unrequited meaning that nobody really has shown him love and mostly everyone in his life just sees him as a pretty omega. this gives reasoning as to why chowon acts the way he does. if the first person who has made you believe you are loved suddenly says they don’t love you, it’s gonna hurt especially in chowons case.
does it excuse his behavior? not at all. does he have room to grow as a character? YES
chowon can still grow and seek help. if kyungsoo chooses to still be with him then that’s okay but first chowon needs to grow from all his internal conflicts.
