My interpretation was that the guards know Nika is infatuated with Fii (although Nika doesnt seem to fully realize this himself) and they sigh cause they pity him
Yeah I also think it has to do with the fact that he loves her, since the author made Fil very obviously clueless (which I find kinda annoying because she's supposed to be really smart and think of everything but ok)
