I know this is well meaning and is a joke, but in real life it gets annoying when people don't respect other's preferences with the whole "you never know till you try!". I mean I'd be pretty peeved if someone kept insisting I'd enjoy shoving a stick up my urethra and being pissed on.

Hmm, I don’t think the “you never know till you try” statement is ever meant as a forceful tool to indoctrinate people into doing what they’re not comfortbale with. I would never force anyone to do what they don’t want. I got into many things I never thought I would like because someone suggested I try them even when I was on the fence about it. Somethings I stood strongly against doing and some others I decided to try. One of those things is Yaoi. I went through years of saying no to this genre. But finally a few months ago I decided to try it and I love it. I suggested my other friends try yaoi too and only one decided to give it a try in November. She only prefers period Shounan Ai though and that’s ok too, she don’t take my whole suggestion but found something she liked along the way of looking into it! To my other friends who completely refused to even try the genre, that’s ok as well. Although they don’t decriminate homosexuals they say they’d rather not read the genre and that’s their preference. The world is beautifully made up of different people, with different likes and some of those will always clash, just because someone suggests you try something they think is amazing to them doesn’t mean they mean ill for you or want to force it on you. You can always say no or yes, the decision at the end of the day is always yours :)

I mean, it's not you I'm referring to. I definitely know you're well-meaning and didn't mean to imply that you're some bad person forcing it on me. I just suddenly thought offhandedly of people who are annoying, and brought up the topic without meaning to imply you are irritating.

It's more towards people who automatically believe that because you haven't tried it, you haven't given it any thought, you just don't know better you'll soon change your mind. Like how "you should have a kid, you'll grow to like it, you'll never know if you don't try".

Hope it doesn't sound like I was calling you annoying. I get what you mean about the trying part.
