It’s SO incredibly devastating that Vinter is my perfect type and I love everything abt his character design and his quiet yearning character settings, but shit man, it’s hard to like any of the love interests in this goddamned story bruh . They all treat her like shit

ke . March 12, 2025 9:49 pm

I’m not hating, so I want to preface that. To each their own. But I am a little confused, there’s like an insistence on likening the twink to a real woman, and multiple mentions of his breasts to the extent that it seems a little unrealistic. At that point, wouldn’t it just be easier to make a character purposefully biologically ambiguous instead of it just being like a sexualized male body? Also, I hope that the misogyny and homophobia in the story are exclusively contextual to the characters being highschool boys and not a justification for it from the author’s part. If you read this and want to share your thoughts, I would appreciate to hear it! (Just please be respectful! ><)

Hi! So I'm just including my own take on this as well as some personal experiences.

I do believe the homophobia & misogyny are contextual given the environment/ setting of the story as well as dependant on the individual characters ideologies instead of justification - now there are a few reasons for this.
I come from a country that is extremely bigoted, racist, homophobic & misogynistic. The guys in most schools here do act like this - my own ex bf (he confessed to me 5 years later) that he used to be harassed day in and day out at school, as well as bullied, from when he was 12 to 16. He was a bit chubby and had a very curvy bottom so his classmates would harass him and joke about it nonstop to an uncomfortable level and all of this only changed once he changed schools.
And then, while we were together, one of his seniors in university tried to come onto him by comparing him to being "the perfect female" (I'm sorry WHAT this man has a D*CK )

That being said! He used to go to a local / national school while I was privileged enough to go to an English medium / international school which was more open to close contact between all genders (the healthy and friendly type!).
So although homophobia existed within the faculty, the general student body was more open to it - though, again, rarely pursued long term due to society.

It was after 5th grade, when we changed from co-ed to exclusively all-boys and all-girls sections, when I found out our school had an exceptionally large number of gay men / men who were not attracted to women. I just thought it was funny when I used to witness things like guys grabbing and pushing each other onto their table. Entertainment. Also, I was too young to realize I was shipping lol.

And on another note, I know one of my male classmates (a dude who used to have a crush on me way back) got surgery to have his "man boobs" removed since his chest wouldn't go down even after exercising. This dude was extremely misogynistic.

So yeah! Taking these real life instances into consideration when I see the story, it seems rather realistic to me.

Only in a roundabout most times "non-violent" way, nearly everything is psychological

that's just this authors fetish there isn't some deep answer to it, dunno what's the psychological explanation for it but it's called feminisation it's a humiliation based kink iirc

I can’t feel any compassion for their storyline, like, at all. KD being all angsty and their situationship, fine. But this whole “I can’t live without you” ass arc is really a kick in the balls. It feels like one of those things where the author is telling you how a character feels rather than actually fleshing it out well.

    skye_faye January 3, 2025 12:38 am

I feel it too. Especially with that little memory flash a few chapters ago when Dan (I think) remembered the good and fun moments with Jaekyung... Like, there were no such moments shown in the main storyline so the flashback felt simply fake and unreal. It could've had more potential, unfortunately it's lacking 〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

    I agree

I think what's happening here is Dan is too overwhelmed with everything. With his grandma in hospice, he knew she'll be gone soon. All the things he endured all this time to make the ends meet and provide for his granny felt lacking as there's no he can do with her situation. Her granny raised him despite old age and now that she's sick but he can't do anything is like a slap of reality to Dan that he's just a burden to other, one that can't do anything right. It's more than just about Jaekyung. Tho, the chapters didn't really reflect that well

I’m not an expert but if I recall correctly, abuse victims normally stay with their abuser because they still cling to their good memories and moments their abusers treated them decently (which is why they always go back to them when their abusers falsely promise they’ve changed). Dan’s brain is in a similar situation where he empathized with Jaekyung too much and only remembers him when he was being decent to him and not abusing him. That’s why he still thinks of Jaekyung and his heart misses him — cause his brain didn’t want to believe the abuse as part of Jaekyung’s character.

And I’m sure that having that weight on his shoulders is tough, but 95% of the manhwa is just dub-con/no-con smut say gex so it’s hard to really feel like KD is a real character outside of being a trope-y 2D. And despite being a victim, he’s this naive abuser-sympathizer, too. I forgot the term, but like there’s a real empathy deficit here because… this story ain’t that well written (imo)

Although the male leads in this were sort of sappy and loving-types, I found it strangely refreshing that they gave their undivided love at every moment. It’s nice not to have to go through the shitty male lead syndrome or slow burn angst. The whole gender disparity blindness is also quite nice because though there is chauvinism and sexism written slightly into supporting cast or insignificant mob characters, the main ml (nine) and for example robbie, demonstrate a flip on the whole gendered convention behind these stories that are centered around aristocratic landed gentryish periods. I think that for the sake of a wholesome upbeat and optimistic narrative, its just nice to read. Another thing I liked is that finally finally a story with a “Female lead” who isn’t a twist villain (i mean, most of them are sooo obvious too, like…) or plot device controlled by a greater power. We just have a genuine, down-to-earth but not too jaded and loving “Female lead” in Yuri and I love that. Because girls should be girls and be besties bc i love women supporting women (its just how its meant to be, duh). More than anything, wow! It’s actually complete!!! Can’t say that for more than half the villainess or similar thematic novels on here, esp the ones at the tops of the popularity page (sob).
Something to run through: Yea, Melissa is a mary sue, doesn’t really have any perceived flaw other than a bit of the overtop shows of ‘manly’ (not for being assertive or other qualities associated with men, but literally scenes of her with a clearly masculine face played into the whole “im a strong man” kind of character which i actually quite like) charm
So there is that. Other than this, everything is rather upbeat and convenient, the narrative aspect of Yuri suffering through countless iterations of a miserable life between the grasp of shitty men is so real (ha. ha. ha. except some of us aren’t fortunate enough to be pretty and awesome like she is) it’s interesting and pitiful and makes me appreciate her optimism despite it (albeit with the help of melissa). Anyways, sorry for the yap sesh, definitely read this if you just want something fluffy to chew on.
