amidst the backdrop of cultural, political, and technological development in japan after the Russo-Japanese war, the story follows three opposing parties that clash and collide in pursuit of a hidden stash of gold, each with their own agendas... the story seamlessly weaves peak comedy and ainu culture/info into a thrilling action/adventure story. it references historical facts and fictionalizes several real-life figures and events. the side charas are so distinctively interesting and bizarre.

great story, visually stunning art, etc. but the romantic subplot with bota/kana is weird. kana is at least 14 yers older than bota, he's like 20 and kana is mid to late 30s (despite looking forever 20)... it's concerning. it's prob bc of this that author decided to play it safe and not do anything about this ship, even tho's there was buildup and all. minor detail of bad writing, but ending was heartwarming anyway, so whatever.
is he an actual green flag now or is y'all bar super low?
wonder if there are any straight guys here that read bl?

would be one of my top picks to turn into action anime. panelling is good, art is perfect, pacing is perfect, worldbuilding is unique, monsters are grotesque and legitimately terrifying, chara development is great, and the emotional moment actually hits.

these comments remind me of those readers who rate a story low bc it contains a trope they disliked, regardless of the actual execution based on said trope. the entire premise is that they are cousins, thus they cant confess to each other... just don't read it if u don't like the trope.

bruh delete that shounen ai tag it's so misleading and giving me false hope since there's no actual bl in the story
not sure what was the point of having mc in a relationship with a much older married man; to enforce their point about married gay man being bats, i suppose? ngl i also have to appreciate that the author didn't portray the relationship and older guy in an entirely predatory light bc simply villainizing him as a pedo would go entirely against their point about how we as a society simplify concepts to mere stereotypes to which we either condemn/condone without any in between, so that we have an easier time understanding the world. it might not be representative of the lgbt people, but it's probably not unlikely that this type of relationship can occur irl. still, the story could've gone without his incestuous lust for his son (btw nowhere does it say he is in love with his son, it simply says that he desires him). and, it's concerning how the relationship is not brought up by the lesbian or the fujsohi... i want to give author the benefit of the doubt, but they sure are making it hard to

inspired by korean history and classics. it's actually a manhwa btw, before the age of webtoon formatting. the plot is thrilling, intense, and gritty; the art is detailed and amazing. the mc's an anti-hero with firm beliefs; a well-written edgy chara. it is a bit slow initially but the latter half is really good. other charas are likable morally gray charas. btw there are a lot of deaths.

i read the sequel, Host, as well and overall, it feels overly melodramatic and a bit unrealistic with the sheer amount of tragedy occurring within short intervals... it broke my immersion. the shoujo artstyle didn't help either.

i get why readers ship sherlock and Moriarty... this is such a compelling retelling of conan doyle's sherlock holms from moriarty's side of the story as an anti-hero, and a sympathetic charismatic one at that. it also explores his dynamics and relationships with his family and friends, including holms, and twists his otherwise evil actions in a patriotic light. also love the incorporation of various historical figures from famous stories as well.
