dropping this at ch 19. the art is beautiful, and the mystery surrounding the assassination of the duchess (i think?) seems interesting, but the storytelling doesn't do it justice. And I'm put off by how fast the romance between lou and kenny is progressing. i think exploring lou's mental instability more, ie. his desperation to be loved by kenny and/or to never go back to his abuser, would make it more realistic and make me actually care.

I'm annoyed that the author decided to cater to his horny audience by manipulating the events so MC will have another love interest when there are other methods to obtain support and increase his own power. but im even more annoyed that the girl didn't appear much after this particular scene (so I've heard), as if the author received backlash from readers and tried to rectify it by not doing anything about it... until the end, cuz in the future, this girl did become one of his wives (he had 3 wives in total). like, bro, if you had the guts to do this, dont fucking back down like a coward, and then only weakly acknowledge your obvious intentions at the very end. fucking acknowledge that he's a hypocrite, and ur a hypocrite as well.

oh boy... cirrus is planning to use skylar to aggravate his stepmom's homophobia again...

just bc he's in love with skylar doesnt mean he's not gonna stop being toxic. the author hadnt even addressed his actions of using skylar to disgust his stepmom yet (or i could be wrong. plz do correct me then) and manipulating chanil and his gf's hookup either. i mean, he is better than in the beginning, but his selfish personality is very much still there- it's just that we pity/sympathized with him since his backstory is sad, and he's nicer to skylar. but he's still a teen, it's so easy to revert back to bad habits when emotions overtake their rationale. also, that ominous last panel of the chapter- it's clearly meant to make him look suspicious as hell. like his mind just broke (for lack of a better word) when his father just ignored his pouring his heart out, and then it immediately shifts to him saying to Skylar to go his house. it's more likely than unlikely that he's gonna do something for revenge or smth.

it's not delusional to assume the worst will happen when the chapter is left on a cliffhanger like that. im speculating based on the sequence of scenes the author drew that's clearly trying to lead us to think that he's planning to stir shit up by inviting skylar to his house. besides u just know for certain he's not gonna act the way bc uve read the raws. ofc, if the author breaks my expectations, ill be pleasantly surprised but like i said, im just fucking speculating.

should i read it now, or save it for later when im older? is this one of those tragic stories that are more relatable for older audiences? cuz i wanna read it and bawl my eyes out but i feel like i wouldn't get the full experience if I'm too young...

Idk if you've read it yet but I would say it depends on what personally gets to you. I read this back when I was around 16 or so and it did impact me a lot, so I think it'd be suitable for 14+ up. I could feel empathy or at the very least sympathy for both of the mc's so so long as you try to understand the though process of both of these individuals, I believe it'll leave a big impression. Either way, it's super bittersweet and I think the most important thing bout reading through this is definitely taking your time and pace your reading so you take in all the panels!

the story is so well-written, and i think the mc not winning the competition is good, cuz that would gone against the author 's message. cuz the others, uiju and chinese girl also worked extremely hard, so really, having mc win, who started lessons less than half a year ago, would be so unfair. just bc he has more talent.

bruh this is stupid but I'm annoyed that the daisy girl gets to live. she wasn't manipulated or anything, she just straight-up an evil cultist who got betrayed and luckily for her, regressed mentally to a child so she gets to live, also bc she is beautiful. like bruh. on another note, this is a good manga. i binge-read the whole story, i cried a bit for glasses-guy, and felt ill at the thought that muscles-guy was gonna die. but by no means a masterpiece. I'd say Train to Busan is a masterpiece.
look, i love a proactive and smart mc, but not at the expense of making almost everyone else morons. it's just not realistic how comically unwise these people are, even if they're teens.
not sure if i should continue, cuz honestly the art style is great at creepy and unsettling tones, but rn im just really annoyed at how the bullies keep getting away with stealing mc's group's food, and mc and group arent taking any preventive measures. like get a new base, or poison them?
