Oh, I'm reading the novel now, but I have not ran into mention of this yet. This is sad if this true, but if she is dead, I'm assuming it was because of a mafia dealing gone wrong, or someone put a hit on her or something. The mom has never been present in any of the flashbacks into Caesar's childhood, so I'm assuming she passed away when he was very young.
