Chapters 22 - 50 are actually the present.
Jian Yi came back after 3 years of being gone and is living with Zhan Xi who is now in college (Jian Yi has to make up high school). While there's tension between them they seem to have made up. Also some special chapters (like the Christmas Special in Chapter 224) also take place during the present. So you see both couples are still together.
The other chapters are flashbacks taking place during their third year of middle school, right before Jian Yi disappears.

When he died or his body is beyond function, he then invited them all to connect to his virtual world "Come spend time with me as last farewell." But the group didn't know they'd fall into the program. Irl maybe Doha rich and have personnel attend to keep the group's bodies alive. That way Doha can continue his time with Bada.
Plot twist. What if to unlock the true ending, Bada had chose to stay with Doha. After a period of their mutual bliss, Doha could grant their freedom. Maybe his last wish was to feel that peaceful assurance from Bada.
