I just realized something after a re-read. Sion was only 10 when he died the first time, then woke up in the body of an 18yo. He's still mentally 10, then lived for two more years after that before exacting his revenge and regressing with Lila. It means he's basically still a kid in an overpowered body at the time. He has little control over his feelings because he's barely a teenager mentally. He only wants revenge and nothing can stop him. Not sure about the next couple of times when Lila dies early after her regression, but I'd guess that Sion also just returns with her and has only "lived" as long as Lila had those times. More or less, if he dies at 10 each time during those first regressions, he mentally ages only two years at a time. I don't remember how many times they went back, but at a rough guess, I'd put Sion's mental age at 18-20 by the time Lila decides to help him and the main story starts. I know this doesn't justify how many times Sion killed her. It just really struck me when I realized he's still a kid who's yet to grow up and begin to even try overcoming his traumas. Between them, Lila's the one who's been living longer and thus more mentally advanced of the two, so I hope she realizes all this later on and works it out from there.
this is what i've been saying to sion haters lol mentally he is still young, never experienced the happiness of being a teen and such— he deserves to hate every possible reason for his despair
What I've been saying !!!! Like I know people think it doesn't make sense for him to get angry at Lila when Lila did nothing directly towards him but when you're a kid, you remember the people who are indifferent or who watched you suffer without doing anything because nuances don't really exist!!!
When you're a kid, you tend to have a it's a 'me vs them" mindset and fail to understand that other people can be victims in their own way as well!
I seriously can't believe for so long that people are preferring an actual psychopath who kills people for fun JUST BECAUSE he didn't hurt the fl the comparison doesn't make sense especially when the other guy comes from a place of privilege vs Sion who literally got enslaved and tortured as a child !!!
That makes so much sense. No wonder! Cecil on the other hand, had time to mature and grow whereas Sion didn't experience growth. He only technically woke up in a body after dying at 10. So it was fresh in his head.
Laila on the other hand, grew those years- she has been stuck in that cycle each time.
Like others, this is exactly what I've been saying all this time to anyone shitting on Sion and/or shitting on us spending time with the two when they're still kids. Sion never got to grow up, to have a proper childhood to teenagehood to adulthood, and imo that is a big part of the story as to why we are focusing so much on this time the two spend together.
I will argue though, even if he technically ages two years every regression (except the ones where Lila also died young), that doesn't necessarily affect his mental age, or at the very least, it should greatly disrupt it with how he spends those two years. There's also the fact that he dies as a kid, believing he's human, only to wake up as a technical adult in an almost non-human body. How much anguish must it be for him to be able to feel all the physical pain, but never die to his injuries? And to have to go through that over and over again? Either way, I think Sion is a really interesting character and I'm so glad you realised this when rereading the story - I can only hope other people will also realise these things by either binging, rereading, stopping to think, or reading these comments.
