But to the rest of the thread, partly agreed: I also think the problem is because some works ACTUALLY do things similar to this, so it gave a lot of us a scare. I do think this one is more silly however, because the author clearly likes mature bodied men and such. If they wanted to do pedo shit they could easily do lolishota content like a nonce.

Yeah I agree with it mostly but I have read another one of this author's works where they do the common yaoi thing (twink uke x taller seme) I think it's Love in the Underworld (fire btw HIGHLY suggest it)
But I have read comics from authors who have an amazing story and seen them ruin it by adding a pedo-like couple (this is the really common one I see in manga) or adding a toxic asf or suspicious (like incest/pseudo-incest) asf side couple (I see this one more in manwha)

Does it really sound unintelligent? Or am I calling it for what it is? A good example is the other day I saw this cosplayer on instagram, and she likes dressing in kawaii and hello kitty style. She posted something saying “time to look lost in an arcade so a guy could help me” I Went to the comment section, what were the “woke” people saying? They said she was sexually children’s stuff and hello kitty, so as such, she’s a pedophile. They also went on to say she was trying to trap men and stuff.

It’s unrelated to this, but it gives an idea why we (or at least I) get pissed off when people jump to conclusions calling something what it isn’t, and overdoing everything in an attempt to prove that they are morally just.

In the case of this manga, when I read “literal child” I did question it, but I also wanted to wait for more chapters because it was obvious that a deity/snake that has lived for decades isn’t an obvious child. Turns out it was a mistranslation.

I’m not going to argue on this. Mangago comments are exhausting.

I also don’t know about it being a whistleblower when this entire convo is under a yaoi, and I couldn’t care less about what people did in real life.

Sorry for late reply, but I see, I will have to give it a look! And exactly. A lot of works by authors tend to reveal a lot about them given what they depict and how they handle it. This case was just a bit of a rocky one because most of us readers have been burned lmao. I do think people need to slow down and think a bit more though before being super reactionary. Overall though, I can see everyones side in part. Glad that it turned out to be a mistake in the end.

I think I came across as quite aggressive in my reply, so that I apologise for. I meant it very neutrally / more informatively, but this is why I prefer writing long responses so I am not taken the wrong way.

You slowing down and wanting to see if this was actually a problem or just a misunderstanding is good, I completely stand behind that.

However, I think you are mistaken when using the term woke. I agree as well that there are very ridiculous people with ridiculous opinions, but that lands on every end of the spectrum, be it politics or morals.

The term “Woke” originated to be aware of racism. However, today it is meant to define anything that MAGA individuals dislike without saying it aloud. This can include; Anything LGBT, any POC / non-white people, generally women, and then topics such as animal protection rights, nature conservation, global warming, etc.

What you’re describing is not woke in either definition, but it does follow the logic of how most anti-woke people use it. They don’t know how to describe what “woke” means, or because they know it means admitting they are a racist, homophobe, misogynist, etc, they hesitate. It is a bit of an enigma by those who use it today I guess.

But, what you describe are just generally- reactionary and puritanical people. Pearlclutchers. This is something that is common on all political spectrums. Be it white christian mothers or righteous liberals who both think their morals are the peak of rationality and anyone who disagrees is immoral and terrible. They are annoying people, I agree. However, I don’t believe that is a “this generation” issue. Generations before were much worse. Women’s skin being a hot topic back in the day and what counted as being a “slut” or just freedom of clothing / expression.

All I am saying is that using the term woke makes you sound like you’re in cahoots with the bigoted group. While to me it doesn't matter because I don't know you, all I am doing is giving you a heads up because perhaps you and some others think saying “this is woke!” is cool or something, but it is not. In a way it could also come across as a bit “pick-me”. Anyways, most anti-woke are not only very selfish and ignorant people, but they statistically have a higher lack of education and generally have a misguided understanding of the world (believe fake news on facebook and are quick to believe propaganda) and are seen by most as being idiotic and childish. So, that’s what using the term “woke” makes you sound like or related to, but I doubt you are that way, since well, we’re on a yaoi dominated website under a yaoi work as you said. Gay porn essentially.

Overall, it is not a huge deal. I was just mentioning it because- well why not? If I see someone who is a potential comrade in how they think or what they do, I would be sure to give them a heads up on their mistaken moments so they do not make a fool of themselves because otherwise I agree with them and their actions or opinions. It can be annoying, but I also just say what I think as someone who is actually “woke” I suppose. Strong opinions and individual research on global issues and the troubles of minorities in today’s political climates. Very radical stances in working peoples rights, activism and such. That is more accurately Woke. Though I don’t really identify with the term, I think it’s how some MAGA folk would label me lmao.

Things like “sexualising content meant for all ages being nasty” is completely irrelevant to what I have my focuses on; and just in my opinion, is quite silly and nonsensical as you say. For this, discussion about the potential of the author being a supporter of underage sexualisation is a fair one without jumping to conclusions based on a single and indeterminate moment. I don’t think it is woke to want to be aware of what content you consume and who it comes from, but it definitely is harmful and dangerous to immediately label someone a pedo because of that and over react. This I believe falls more under “cancel culture” problems. Generally just reactionary people. Those folk been a problem since long before. It just takes different forms.

And yeah, why say all this under some BL work? Well, it's about 2 am and I am having sleeping troubles tonight, and generally I just have a lot of thoughts I want to express. To both clarify that I am not attacking what you are saying, but letting you know that a specific term you are using is not really the one you would want to use if you don’t want to sound like all the things anti-woke people are associated with. Quite a small topic, but sometimes it is nice to talk in depth about the smaller things, given I am often writing these things for much more dire topics elsewhere, which can be quite a lot at times. The world is a messy place.
