Last chapter I discussed that Seungho’s mental health became worse because he was probably outcast by his family because they found out he was gay. Which makes sense because Seungho believes him being attracted to men is phase or illness that he will eventually overcome. He has also thought of killing himself and everyone around him because of the judgement. In his confession he truly had come to realize that he is gay and not just emotionally attracted to men but for the first time emotionally. He acting very “cruel” and irrational is a clear sign of child negligence and wanting to have power that he never had when he was a child. He probably believes that he hurts everyone that he comes in contact with for example his family and Nakyum. He is distanced from his family because of his sexuality which “hurt” them and in instances where he felt like he hurt Nakyum whether physical or emotional, he would always distance himself. Seungho has never met someone that he truly saw himself with, especially someone as fragile as Nakyum. Seungho’s demeanor has definitely changed from them, he’s no longer rough with Nakyum as he was in the beginning. Byeonduck has done literally an amazing job with Seungho’s character, turning him from what people think is a 2d character to a 3d one. I cannot wait until we find out about Nakyum’s past as well. Everyone thinks that they know Nakyums character very well but knowing Byeonduck there’s definitely more to him.
I was really looking for some trans representation, since we never get to see any so I’m pretty bummed out. Also I don’t know about the childhood friend? I don’t know about any of the women to be honest, probably except for YiYi’s cousin. But I don’t trust the childhood friends intentions for right now. I really don’t want Feng and YiYI to get in anymore misunderstandings.
Byeonduck has done such an amazing job by making Seungho a layered character who can easily be mistaken as a simple one. There is a large misconception (both in the manhwa and real life) of Seungho being only a cruel, sadistic person. It’s clear that he’s been through trauma, especially about his sexuality. I see it as him being alienated by his family when they found that he liked men over women, which led him to have a private life (whether by force or not) and his own compound far away from his family. I think he even tried to convince himself that this is just a faze and that when he was done enjoying his time with men, he could just go back to women and forget that this all happened. This may be the reason why he is perceived as a hostile person in general. He’s not understood by anyone, not even the persons who he shares blood with. What I like so much about his confession is that he not only confirms that he likes Nakyum but that he’s also romantically interested in men, which we’ve never seen him express before Nakyum. It also ties in with his statement about killing everyone with an opinion about not only him liking men but as well one who has no social status. He also makes it clear that he’s thought about killing himself because of this.
