Honestly, I never really got mad over the necklace, I think it was a bit lowering to only define Edith by if she got a big hunk of stone to wear too, not that they were limiting her to that, but I felt that even if it was the story controlling things, that it wasn't a big deal, these stories have rich nobles but they be acting real broke and unimportant, as Edith says, low self esteem and shameful plugs

it wasn’t about the necklace itself, it was more the fact that they denied edith yet another thing that traditionally would go to her. she doesn’t get any acceptance or proper treatment from that family, and when the duchess was standing there like “it was our decision” i was sorely disappointed cuz i thought she was on edith’s side.
