That thought was similar to my own. Like couldn't the citizens just switch who they are willing to let rule them? Peaceful takeover. She already runs the kingdom as is while the "Emperor" just screws around. The fact that he won't be having offspring means the end of the royal line anyway (from other people's comments) so the kingdom would fall regardless. Especially when you have the nobility trying to undermine authority to the royal family left and right. Sorry for the rant.
No problem my guy, I’m basically ranting too lol, it would be ideal but peaceful take overs never happen, there will always be people on his side maybe due to promise of power or just because of his lineage or the reign of his family, they don’t know that the empress is basically doing all the work, there’s a reason why dictators don’t just get overthrown without bloodshed and violence, and yep I guess they could migrate but the family and community they built for many generations will crumble, their businesses, resources and land will be lost, everything they built will be lost, the best thing that could occur is that he will die a miserable old fuck and whichever person who succeeds him, be it a distant relative or someone worthy, they rule better (or the country goes through the painful process of becoming a democracy)
