I'm a bit torn on this. Like I get what you mean, bad translations can do more harm than good because a story can turn out like total crap and people won't want to buy the official work. I'm a translator and I know Google translate is totally unreliable for mangas that use non-normal levels of speech (e.g too polite/ too much slang/ dialects/ idiom......

Usually if you see wonky translations, it’s either a non native English speaker trying their best or a newbie in the field.... also trying their best. My best advice is if bad translations annoy you, then offer to PR (proofread) for whoever’s scanning. It helps them, the audience gets a better reading experience, and you’ll probably get acc......
