In all honesty, both parents are trash. But emperor is a trash that you can kinda understand why he became the trash he is, while empress is just plain insane trash. Like the trash that makes your skin crawl. Did the emperor even ask her to do all that? She did all that herself, for her own benefit. Not even because she loves him apparently, but because she wants power. He owed her nothing. And apparently, shes a rapist too. Now i can kinda understand his reluctance to accept the mc.
