Does anyone have spoilers of how the hourglass powers affect Aria? T_T I am so worried on how often she uses it... all I know form previously posted SPOILERS is that she is has royal blood which is why she can use magic And that it tires her out but does anyone know if it actually takes her life force away and whatnot? Also I wonder how old she is at the moment... she looks like an adult but wasn’t that because of her sudden growth spurt assumingly due to her usage of the hourglass? So how old is she right now actually?

I think Mielle is the one who’s 14/15

They really zoomed through that plot point of going to war, huh LOL

I think the real plot point was supposed to be how she overcomes the peoples prejudices and how other people have to examine theirs and realize how they are wrong.

Spoiler
Her skin turns white just when ppl started accepting her for who she is and then suddenly all the people who were still prejudiced suddenly became interested in her bc they have never seen white skin with black hair. And now she's like yall fake as fuck and she makes other ppl including her own mother realize her disgusting actions . And while the story isnt about race and a lot of ppl were saying shit about the author being racist but I think (maybe its cuz Ii like to give the benefit of the doubt) it was actually to show how gross and superficial ppl are in that they treat someone with dark blessing or "attributes" as scary and cursed but then as soon as her skin is light she is intriguing and beautiful. And how such treatment is damaging to people

Omg that is so interesting. And I agree with you about the author not being racist, people need to realize that the author is Japanese, and race is treated and viewed much differently there than it is in the US and 'Western' culture. Something i really get angry at is 'Westerners' getting offended when Japanese people actually put effort into making social commentary on racism because westerners don't bother looking at things through a different cultural lens. It is not to be demeaning to Japanese culture, but it is a fact that race is seen differently there. It's a different culture; not every culture sees things in the same way. From what you've told me, I think the author really is making a very important point and she is doing it in a way that probably makes more sense for a Japanese audience than a Western audience. Which is completely fine because the authors intended audience IS Japanese, not the West.
This was a bit of a rant but my main point is that the author is not racist, they are making a very good point in a way that connects with their INTENDED audience (Japan) and a Western audience might misconstrue their meaning because they are viewing it through their own cultural lens.

Exactly my dude, in japan there is this wierd fear/appreciation of black ppl and everyone who read the novel was so angry bc they are from the west and/or grew up in the west where thoughts about race are very different. They just assumed that the author was racist. When, as you said, they could have been making a social commentary that was more intended for the japanese audience aka the intended audience.

Ik most people are saying that they don’t like how she’s so fixated on revenge and her thought processes about other innocent characters etc. but I like it. She actually is just a villainess trying to get revenge. While yeah I want her to eventually get a redemption arc, I want her to have her revenge fulfilled first. I like how Aria isn’t just some goody-goody reformed villainess right after they die and are given the second chance (๑•ㅂ•)✧
