I feel like we've read far too many stories where sacred beasts with human forms have human reasoning that we're expecting the same here.
The author has done a wonderful job showing how snakes act? And we've constantly gotten reminders that at the end of the day, Zero is a snake. Not a human, a snake.
If a dog bites someone who playfully hit it on its head, you'd blame the owner for not training it right, wouldn't you?
Hwa keeps forgetting he's a snake, not her younger brother and doesn't acknowledge that for Zero, she was not, is not, and will never be an older sister.
Understandably, Hwa has other things to be occupied with, namely saving her family from the Bloody Sect, so it's not entirely on her that she fails to allocate separate braincells for training Zero.
But end of the day, Zero is a snake and is acting as a snake does. And Hwa is someone who is more concerned with saving her family than anything else. Neither of them are wrong in what they do. It's just shitty circumstances.
If you don't like Zero, or Hwa or any character, that's okay. That's your preference.
Just remember not to expect human behaviour from a beast just because other stories like this have that trope. Zero is quite literally a snake, no matter how human he looks, and he's never been taught how to be a human properly.
Again, this is in no way me saying you should like Zero. Just me asking you to change your perspective a little. Thank you.
This is going to be a long rant, so bear with me.
