Now i know we’re all thankful to the translators & uploaders. I’m disabled & sometimes have to spend all my time in bed, so i’m super thankful. But what the hell is with the onslaught of memes & the meme recounts of the uploaders experiences while reading. It’s gotten to annoy me enough that i now feel compelled to share my thoughts on the memes & they have less to do with sense of humour, & more to do with over saturation.
If a meme is truely funny you only need one, the humour is more strongly felt by the reader & the reader is less likely to skip reading it. Adding so many extra, to me, makes it look like your not fully confident the humour of your memes so your just adding as many as u can hoping one will amuse the reader, but instead what happens is none of them get read because the reader found out last chapter that they were kinda stupid & doesn’t wanna waste time reading ten stupid memes for the possibility of maybe one good one.
Then there’s those that re-use the same memes a lot, they can get super annoying after seeing the same unfunny side glance for the hundredth time.
then there are those “me when i read this” accompanied by a picture of someone or thing doing a side glance, crying, etc. While i’ll probably never fully understand the narcissism of needing to give a play by play of how you felt while reading every chapter & thinking that everyone else wants to know. Even when you actually have amusing input it’s given at the end of the chapter & sometimes i’m like “oh yeah, i kinda felt that way back then” but i’m already past it. or i think “did that happen? i think i remember reading that near the start maybe?”. If u need to share it’s better in the translation notes, plus it’s shorter, & to the point. I have yet to see a personal reaction meme that i have found funny, but i have read some personal reaction translator notes that have made me laugh.
In saying that, a few of the memes are really funny, it’s just a huge shame that they are lost in a huge sea of ‘meh’
Interesting! I’ve never really minded these memes, as I found most of them funny. I remember, there was this one manga where the sidenotes (translator notes on the side of the page, ifykyk) and they were just being plain rude. Everybody complained about it in the comments as well. I think it stopped? Not sure though. Otherwise, I get what you are saying.
Have you commented: “not my cup of tea” or something along the lines of “people who read this are sick” or have you tried to point out how the trauma is not realistic because the bad guy isn't punished or that its offensive to trauma sufferers?
I’ve decided to reply to you here cos there are just too many out there to reply to.
I’ve read too many manga now where I've wondered why it was given such a low rating. Then I look at the comments & see these kinds of posts:
“Not my cup of tea”
You’re basically saying: “I have chosen this manga to read, which i clearly did WITHOUT looking at the summary or tabs or lists or other peoples comments. I clearly chose wrong”
Now choosing the wrong manga or wanting to try something new is fine. But when you rate that manga with 1 or 2 stars because because you disagree with the characters morals, you are affecting other people: the mangaka, editors/publishers, the translator & the reader. Who btw, even though they read or work on a manga, don't necessarily agree with its morals. I even came across a comments saying that they chose it for the front cover & then they admitted they made the wrong choice - but they still gave it 1 star!
Think of the best manga you've ever read, now imagine if a bunch of people came in, who knew they didn't like that genre, & read it. Now they are giving a decent piece of work 1 star, so people looking for a good read in that genre will never find it because they are looking for a good read - not something rated as low as 6.0.
“People who read this are sick”
Think before you post. Yes, some that are read about trauma for enjoyment, that’s their choice & the fact that you are judging them is bad enough. But then there are those like me, who seek out manga concerning trauma for a different reason & here’s where a nasty statement like that really becomes OFFENSIVE. I seek out bad trauma, because i have suffered bad trauma & it just makes me feel better. But it’s SO HARD to find good trauma due to the inaccurate ratings, so i’m felling a lot less fulfilled each time. Also if such a careless statement upset me, (an adult who’s gotten out of & moved on from the trauma & doing relatively ok) i can only imagine how it could hurt a young teen, who has or is going through the same trauma. They won’t necessarily realise that you are the one wrong & by calling the acts “sick”, they may instead think that makes them sick or gross for having these acts forced upon them. Just because your online is no reason to be stupid.
Lastly the offensive to the realism of trauma and therefore to those who have been through trauma because they didn't suffer repercussions like in the ‘real world’:
Im sure those reading such manga (18+) are only enough to know if it is a trigger for them, as they probably read reviews before the manga, and those who do continue to read are old enough to know its FICTION.
I was sexually abused at 5 (non-family member - at school), i was physically, mentally & financially abused throughout my life by my father, I was also mentally & physically abused by my sister. Now, clearly, i was more upset by your comment then the manga, because unlike your comment - the manga was FICTION. I would also like to mention that not a single one of the above people have had to suffer any repercussions, so clearly your first point is incorrect. I clearly don't find the manga offensive, but instead i find it therapeutic. In fact reading about trauma was suggested to me in therapy, so I'm obviously not the only one, but i might be to only one willing to speak up (having autism has allowed me to detach). I’ll add that, while watching a documentary, i learnt that 90% of women with mental/cognitive illness are sexually abused at least once & its very common with autism females because they don’t understand whats being done & will believe what the other party says. I was one of these and it was only through reading fiction that i realised it was wrong and decided to reveal it to my family (at the late age of 28- i'm 34 now) at which point the other sister (not the abuse one) revealed she was sexually abused too (in her 50s), the abuser is long dead & never suffered repercussions.
I just wanted to let you know that I am sorry for what you had to go through. NO ONE fucking deserves that. I hope you get the love and care you deserve. Getting over trauma is incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible to 100% recover from. You are strong. It's okay to struggle along the way, but you are strong and human.
Sorry but I'd just like to point out that the low ratings have no direct effect on the actual authors and publishers. This is an illegal site after all.
It's quite apparent that the issues you've addressed seem to have a severe impact on you but I can't help but wonder why you can't just ignore the bad comments left by people? I can assure there'll always be those types of comments so instead of letting yourself be so hurt by them, I think In the long run it would be best to just not pay them any mind. Many of my favorite stuff whether it be manga/anime or music also has their fair share of dislikers but :/ I don't mind em bc at the end of the day I still like what I like and there are others who like them too. I hope you're able to find some form of relief from all this.
Not in a big way - but it gets their name out there and gets them publicity, which is always good (if theres a lot of internet chatter about how good an authors work is, its always good for them) and i would like to think some people do actually decide to support them or at least seek out more from them.
I also wouldn’t say what they write hurts me - especially when it come to what has happened to me in the past cos I'm pretty much past all that. I’m concerned it might hurt another young person who isn't, but not me.
Its just people with autism - injustice & inaccuracy really rubs us the wrong way and since I'm reading manga every day, often all day (I'm also quite physically disabled) it just niggles at me bit by bit. But once i write my disagreements down and press post it all disappears because i have done what i can to fix it.
im so sorry about what you had to go through, but for me personally, when i say "not my cup of tea" i'm saying that yes i read the tags, yes i read the description, yes i read the genres, yes i read the comments, and yes i read the ratings, but i just didnt enjoy it. this may just be me, but im sure not everyone had the intentions you described when they said it.
my point is not so much about the statement - it’s fine. it’s more about the accompanying 1 star because of a clash in morals- i didn’t mean everyone, just those to whom my statements applied - i wanted people to think about their posts & ratings through giving them new perspectives they may have not considered
Ok there seems to be a few misunderstood replies & i have tried to address them as best i could but i would like to clear up some things
What I've written clearly does not apply to everyone - no statement on these topics really could. And i know that what i say is simply one persons opinions & experiences, not all those who have been though trauma feel as i do either.
I’m also fine now with all that trauma stuff by the way and im not posting this cos i feel emotionally hurt by these comments (though i have slight concern others not over their trauma might).
The purpose behind my post was really to make people think before they post about the motives & viewpoints of others. And also to make them think before rating about whether it was the manga (writing, art, plot, pace, etc) or the morals they disliked & the same of course works in the opposite (its always sex & super fluff that seems to get high ratings). Im not expecting everyone to become experts in rating either, just asking them to think on it as best they can manage (people don't think before words enough)
So why was i compelled to post if i wasn't upset by this in relation to my trauma. Well this has more to do with my aforementioned autism. We often have trouble not speaking up when we see something that is, in our opinion, unjust or incorrect. And i read manga everyday cos i'm quite physically disabled as well, so seeing it just kept bugging me till, bit by bit, i had enough. In my case, i have a need to do something about things i think are wrong, but once I've done something that feeling goes away, cos I've done something.
That is very true & they now know there are just as many females with autism as males, we’re just better at hiding it.
I wasn’t diagnosed until i was 26 & my life would have probably been a lot smoother if we had known. I don't know about the sexual abuse, but i might have realised it was wrong, or i would have told someone. But i know that many of the times i was hit/beat by my father was the result of my autism and a lot of the times my mother & sister covered for me. Leaving my sister to hate me, as she often took the blame cos she knew i would suffer more than her. which ultimately led to her abuse of me.
Life is A LOT easier & happier now i know, both for me and my family.
Some of my tabs on some of my lists wond delete when i press on them (like with all the others that did delete). I really want to fix this because some of them no longer relate to the list & i would feel bad deleating & recreating the list because there are so many following it now.
So does anyone know how to fix this without recreating the list?
How much Manga would you estimate you read in about 7 months?
I just saw someone else’s home page & though they joined at least 6 months before I even read my first Manga ever, I have read a lot more than them. I’m aware I spend a lot of time reading manga, cos I have a lot of time (physically disabled), &, being Autistic, I have a monotropic mind (focusing on a small number of interests at any time, tending to miss things outside of this attention tunnel). So I guess its a normal number for someone like me.
But still, I’m finding myself quite curious at what the normal amount to read in 7 months is.
In case you’re curious too, an abnormal amount to read is:
440 ongoing/dropped
890 completed
Since joining on 5th of December 2019
Recently when asked why I read Yaoi, I said its mostly because I haven't come across many heterosexual romances where I've liked how the female was written/represented in the Manga thats aimed at adults (i like reading serious, psychological, Trauma & Drama). Admittedly this can happen in Yaoi with the Uke as well, but it happens a lot less (or maybe Im subconsciously sexist & okay with seeing a man in a position that Im not okay seeing a woman in — man I hope thats not the case).
Does anyone know any heterosexual romances that show women as realistic humans & not so boring & 2D. Meaning those that don't show the female:
—Being soft & frail & needing protection
—Unable to provide the same level of comedy as the men
—Being led, sexually, by a man (eg.Unable to control self/voice, while man can control).
—Having unrealistically huge boobs, hips & butts, with overly tight clothes.
—Without flaws or realistic problems
Theres gotta be at least a couple out there.

Love interest is a bit of a yandere in both past life and current life. One of my favorite series.)

Well I’m actually 34 (35 in a mth), but I saw in your home page that we read/like similar stuff, so I’ll check out your suggestions.
Ugh - it really tells you how much time i have (disabled) when I only started reading Manga for the first time around the end of last year, yet am reading 440 ongoing or dropped & have read 890 completed. Im not even a huge fan of One Shots (´༎ٹ༎`)
Lucky I’ve got Autism, or I might care more about my lack of a life.
I know its been mentioned. But due to my Autism, if somethings wrong, it bugs me endlessly & I want to fix it. Plus, unlike most things, this is actually something I have the ability to fix.
Okay, I have mentioned my frustrations with the summaries. Their sentence structure, spelling &, most notably, their punctuation are all bad. Im not wanting professional or for there to be no mistakes (we all make them), but please just read it aloud once before posting. And if you don’t know how to use punctuation, then don’t (I never use ; as i couldn't get a complete understanding of it - but I still survived 5 years at University & 5 years at college without using it - so you definitely shouldn’t feel compelled to use something just because you see it in the Manga).
Using punctuation “to add more reading feels” (Reading feels? Really?), won’t work if its randomly placed or added too often. Its really the job of the writing to add emotion & the punctuation is there so you can understand it. If you are not confident in your writing then adding nonsense punctuation doesn’t help.
Anyway, my question (sorry - I got side tracked). Due to my Autism, when I put together my own summary it has to be of a certain standard &, even when I try to, I find it difficult to do a half-assed job. I usually end up having to rewrite or edit about 80% of the summaries i read. So I got to wondering if theres a way to edit the summary provided. I figured, seen as how I'm there taking the time to edit it anyway, I might as well fix it a bit while I'm there. A lot of the summaries are heading in the right direction anyway, in that they cover the needed info, they just need to be edited.
Or would that be offensive to who wrote it? I’m not very good when it comes to knowing whats acceptable or not & I tend to be too honest. And, while I can waste my time defending or explaining why i have written the things i did, I would not change the fact that i wrote them, because i think them. But I do apologise if what I have written has personally offended or pissed you off because that was not my intention. If even all this achieves is people reading their summaries aloud before posting (& I mean WITH your punctuation [eg. Pausing at full stops, etc]), there should be a noticeable improvement.
ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ Thankyou for reading my incredebly long & padantic ‘question’ — Well Done ( ˘ ³˘)
(ง'-')ง I’m ready for any constructive feedback you may have
Yeah, I’m physically disabled (+ a little mentally & cognitively) so I don't have a lot of money + most my money goes to appointments & meds. I also cant do a lot so i have plenty of sitting still time to fill - so the free Manga is definitely not lost on me. Thats why I don't complain about translators & just appreciate them for the good work they’re doing. Though in saying that, in the manga I've read at least, the translators don't make near as many stupid punctuation mistakes as the summaries tend too.
I know the random “:;?%” your referring to, it’s annoying, but cause i know thats a glitch it doesn't bother me as much.
I think the Reason the other punctuation bothers me as so much more than the glitch is because people are actually making a conscious choice to use something they don’t understand. I have some issues with confident ignorance = those ignorant of the facts/truth about a subject but confident in their opinion is the best anyway.
( .• _ʖ •.) Man, even when I want to I cant make it short
Is anyone else having any of these problems or is it just me? AND more-so does anyone know how to prevent/fix it so it wont happen again?
Some or all of your comments left about a Manga have just inexplicably disappeared?
You save a newly written comment or question or any post and when your finished & click post, all your work disappears.
Sometimes when you open a list & click on edit, your writing that describes the list gone & you have to press back then edit again & then sometimes that doesn't even work so you have to copy and paste?
Good day Kay-san, Suujin here!
1. "Comments left have just inexplicably disappeared"
- This happens when your comment contains flagged words such as other manga hosting sites, social media sites, foul words, etc.
- It also happens when someone reported your topic that it contains provocative and unpleasant content, personal attack or abusive content, etc.
2. "When your finished & click post, all your work disappears"
There are two reason that this happened
(1) Your topic contained flagged words such as other manga hosting sites, social media sites, foul words, etc. It is set that if your topic contains such words, your topic will automatically be deleted.
(2) The tab/page has been 'idle' for too long. If you are not interacting with buttons and hyperlinks for a while, the browser will load and display the cached site page, meaning what you're currently seeing is the 'downloaded for offline use'. So when you click on the Post button, it will refresh the page instead.
3. "The writing that describes the list is gone"
- This issue is not caused by the site but by the device you are using. The local storage can make the user interface unusable for entering text areas especially when the cached data has reached its size limit for that particular application, in this case the browser you are using to access the site. So, it is very important to clear your cache every now and then.
If you are unsatisfied with my answer or if the issues are still unresolved, then you can raise your concern to the webmaster by sending an email to [email protected]
You can also post it on the message board of this site's official account http://www.mangago.zone/home/people/1/home/
I don't know how many have noticed this but (I’m talking of the apple emojis=I use an iPad to read & review manga) Mangago seems to allow some emojis for comments, list descriptions & list titles, but not others. And then the tabs will allow even less emojis. Ive been trying to use the symbols to aid me in organising & classifying the Manga i have read {sorry-got autism-so its important to me}. So my question is - has anyone worked out all those that can and cant be used? I've worked out some, but you can only do it 1 at a time so its a time consuming process, so i thought id ask if anyone else had already done it.
OR better yet, does anyone know of a way to get Mangago to accept those emoji in the tabs?
[eg. in the comment section of each Manga it allows the red, green, blue, yellow & purple ’s to show up but not the black, orange, white or brown ones—while only the red one can be used in tabs]
Please stop signing me out so often. I understand why you do it, but in the past I’ve been signed out of MangaGo several times in one hour. Im disabled, and due to my disabilities i am often bed bound. When that happens i read manga - so essentially my iPad never really leaves the MangaGo website - and its very annoying when I’m in the middle of reading and MangaGo signs me out. Also, because of my disability, i use a controller (keypad) to scroll up and down while my ipad is not as easily accessed. But my controller doesn't work for signing in and out so its a huge hassle to sign back in and an even bigger hassle to write this - but it has just gotten that annoying.
But seen as how im on the topic, i would love if MangaGo decided to include more accessible features for people such as myself, such as automatic scrolling for example.
"I understand why you do it"
Can you please tell why they do it?
