Please, I wish this was only in mangas...I have co-workers who're this snide and passive-aggressive. When one of our new male co-workers was found to be happily married to a man, comments such as 'Fuck, i knew there was something off about him' 'Damn, that's why i didn't feel comfortable talking to him, it's that general vibe' 'he probably is the woman' etc.If I were to describe this co-worker, he's a chill dude but was a bit reticent/ closed-off. Exactly like me....And guess what, these guys were in their late twenties to late thirties. Living in CA and this company was a ecig company.

Luckily it was never in front of him, this was all behind his back...mch like with the soldiers at the restaurant. So I don't think he was aware of the contents, but it's shitty.

But you know what, i've learned that there is a lot of anti-lgbtq and anti-women sentiment. But it's all in the background, only revealed if you were on of the 'bros', like you have the join that club. But if you simply knew them as co-workers/ acquaintances (1st impression etc.) you'd think they were the most progressive of folks who didn't have any problem with living as freely as one desires. And i've found mostly men cohort to be that base, sensitive to every little change and problematic.

What's scarier is that men dominate the industry I am a part of. And because everyone is complicit in propagating these hateful ideologies, they tend to protect each other. So once anyone retaliates, you will be excluded and you'll slowly see your opportunities within the company go down. I had a female colleague who before I joined filed a complaint against her superior cuz he would always give more credits/ work to her male counterparts. She successfully won that case and he left the company.....but her reputation was utterly tarnished. It was a joke that whichever man came in contact with her would need to be careful or they would be branded sexist. Thats why this is so toxic and problematic. The men wont admit to being a problem but throw the blame on others sensitivity. Ive also met men who are such sweethearts but they are a minority, I wont lie. I also had several superiors try to fire my own boss who happened to be a woman within weeks of her joining the company. Apparently she was cutting a higher salary and that didn't sit wll with them.

Just got to add, the one who won her case also got demoted and switched to a division that wasnt her strongest suit. My boss ended up leaving the company after our superiors tried to fire her 4x within 6 months. The reason they try to protect each other, its mainly has to do with lawsuits and being branded as sexist, racist etc. Cuz that does affect their future job opportunities.

i'm scared now...it sounds really hard for a woman to survive alone in an industry full of men

It's more like, if you go against the party in power, which happens to be toxic masculinity atm.....yea, ur fucked. My advise would be to just take it slow, pick and choose the battles you can fight, i genuinely believe workplace culture will get better, its just slow atm.
