I want to belive Yvonne's brainwashing only works on Derrick bc he's a piece of shit. Since he's doo doo garbage, his affection is low, which makes Yvonne brainwashing effective. Therefore, it's his fault he got brainwashed, so we can hate on him, even though he wasn't 100% in control of his own actions.

Yeah, even before Yvonne was here, he always was a piece of shit already. Just remember the hunting shit arc. He always has this prejudice of Penelope being the worst person in the room. Well, the term prejudice might be wrong since Penelope WAS bad before MC came in, but he always thought that she was beyond saving. That she could never change, even though she did and he could see that. He refused to believe it, probably because he thinks so lowly of Penelope.
But honestly I understand why previous Penelope was like that, she probably felt like no one was at her side and it was basically "her against the world". I feel bad for her, honestly while thinking in her shoes and if I were to experience it, I was thinking I'd just kill myself at that point. I don't have the patience and I'm too tired to do anything, to change anything. I salute MC because she even lasted THAT LONG. Just thinking about what she went through and how many people was against her is breaking my heart.
P.S. I know the spoiler about previous Penelope and MC, just to make that clear.
