yall okay so i don't know how much of it is true, but based on my research shit, the first wife was supposed to have a son and not a daughter. and we don't know if the father was the one or the magician was the one who bought her back.
the first wife got killed because of the second family. there was apparently a misunderstanding. and MAYBE she made a pact with a demon to sacrifice her soul to save her son(probably.)
so basically, cosette's body is possessed by a demon and that is why she is like that.

basically when Keira died from execution the spirits got mad and Cosette is already destroying the kingdom showing her true colors. meanwhile, the duke (I guess) together with the wizard(or a mage or whatsoever) turned back the time but the duke decided to not to keep the memories, well except for keira. Cosette's mother contracted a demon when she was about to die saying let her unborn child live but died together with the unborn child which is cosette then the demon take form of a baby(currently cosette) whose the one who almost destroyed the kingdom

The first wife(Rowena) died because the second wife was jealous of the first wife that clearly was more favored by the duke, 2nd wife family threatened and harrassed Rowena because they wanted Keira's mother to be the sole Duchess - the duke's marriage to Keira's mother was imposed on him due to her family's powerful influence.
They also were the ones who spread lies that Rowena was "barren" to pressure the Duke into Divorcing her so Keira's mother would be the only lady of the Parvis household - and only mother of Parvis children.
The first wife pleaded with the duke that the 2nd wife's family were threatening her and she was scared so she wanted to be protected from them.
Unfortunately, the Duke being the shitbag he is didn't take her seriously due to his "neutrality" policy and didn't intervene.
Keira's grandfather is a nasty piece of work, he set it up that Rowena would have no one to protect her from the threats against her by having her family - The Weinbergs wiped out by framing them for crimes they didn't commit and have the rest killed. So when she has driven out of the house due to their assassin attempts by Keira's grandfather, she was pregnant with fraternal twins. she had NO WHERE to go and no one to protect her since the Duke was too cowardly to stick up for his wife that it seems he clearly cared for more than Keira's mother whom he had no affection for. All the Weinbergs (apart from the Count) had been killed.
The assassination attempts mean she to twins that die and in desperation and anger she makes a contract with a demon to save her child and avenge her?
The babies die but the demon enters the body of the girl and this is the "Cosette" we see in the story. A demon is using the corpse of a deceased person as a husk.
It's heavily implied the reason why Duke had no affection for Keira in comparison to "Cosette" is because of who their mothers were.
"Cosette" is the daughter of his first wife whom he seemed to have affection for, but was too spineless to protect. Whereas, Keira is the daughter of the woman he was pressured into marrying and the daughter of someone he despises - Marquis Ediburgh. Keira is the spitting image of her mother which is also something that didn't work in her favor when compared to Cosette. The second wife's family drove the first wife out of the house so that is another reason he has a grudge with that house.
Back to the execution and aftermath...
The Duke KNEW Keira's mother never cheated on him and that Keira was his biological daughter but he still treated her that way and publicly shamed her as being a "fake". What's worse is that there was a ballot to decide Keira's fate and "Mr. Neutral" votes in favor of executing Keira and is arm-in-arm with Cosette as they watch her be beheaded.
This comes back to bite him though, since as Keira was the saintess her execution angered the Spirits. Furthermore the "Cosette" the Duke openly declared as his "real" daughter is revealed to be a demon and unleashes a demonic horde that creates a calamity in the world.
Its not hard for people to work out who should be blamed - The Duke.
And this leads to him being disgraced and house Parvis falling into ruins.
That is is his real reason to turn back time. Not "guilt" or "remorse" for murdering his daughter he knew was innocent!

The more you look into the story. The more it becomes apparent The main villain isn't even Cosette a.k.a corpsette since it is a demon possessing a dead body.
It's the Duke and Keira's grandfather. Cosette is purely the symptom not the cause.
