Yup, Another weak, talentless, stuttering, shaking, overthinking, unconfident, unfit uke who is lost in his life.And yet another strong, charismatic, multitalented, bold, confident, alpha, sigma, bravo, Charlie, bla bla bla seme with 200 IQ and hexa meta quadruple phD, descending from heaven upon this earth only and only to save this poor uke's ass. As Lord said "some are saviors, rest are born to be saved".
It would have been far more easier to say you hate characters who are introverted and aren't bold and extroverted instead of all that word. It's not necessary for every character to be outgoing.
So even if uke is a professor, he is still gonna be a dumb pushover right? Not like profs are not dumb but this cliche is overused too much. Fuck these stereotypes are killing my brain cells. Why can't they put something realistic for once in while.
And here we go again. Back to square one. That's why I hate this type of story. Cain should just dump Jooin's pushover ass and find someone who can really love him back, while Jooin and Yahwi should just jump off the cliff together. That should be best ending anyone can hope for. I don't care anymore.
Your typical yaoi story....
Step-1: You meet an asshole seme who rapes you, cheats on you, blackmail you and basically destroys your life.
Step-2: Then you are shown his sad past/childhood trauma (his favorite toy got broken/his candy fell on ground/ his pet dog died/ he accidentally killed a bird/his parents got divorced/his first love cheated on him etc etc.)
Step-3: You feel sympathy for him (I understand why he is like that/oh, he must have suffered a lot/It must be lonely etc etc.)
Step 4: He takes care of you (buys you medicine for/gives you water/carries you around/help you walk/ wipe you clean/buys you a meal/basically show you any form of basic human decency)
Step 5: You fall in love i.e. he is kind/he is only good to me/he is trying to change etc etc.
Step 6: Logic does suicide (xth time).
I don't care if other MLs are worst than him or he is slightly better than other. To me a red flag is still a red flag. A fracture in leg is better than heart attack, but that doesn't mean we should break our legs.
Why are uke made like "looser who can't do a single thing right" in every BL? I mean amongst people I have met, I have never seen any so called "bottom" like that in real life. It's almost as if they passed "weak female who can't do anything without her OP boyfriend" stereotype from shoujo to yaoi. I don't like such stereos but these are literally tons of them. You have to scan through hundred to find just one non stereotype story. Even shoujo have started to change nowadays, while yaoi remains same as forever.
I like everything except the ending of Yeom Ra. I think he got "too grand" ending considering what he did. I don't like how he was spared till last and all cruelty he committed was justified as mere "loneliness". Call me boomer but I would have been more happy if he would have died dog's death. But what could I say, most BL authors have soft spots for offenders.

exactly this!!! and I'm not talking about just this one (altho it was such an adorable story I enjoyed it), 90% of the time they're written like this and it's so annoying. it's also more than just the physical appearance for me, it's the nature of the character. Even when they're physically more or less the same size as the semes or just as "masculine" or whatever, they're portrayed as weak willed, constantly blushing and stuttering, always the one getting more aroused than the seme, can't control themselves, etc. being sexually or emotionally, it just always feels unbalanced so I often feel frustrated reading them

I just saw this somewhere else, basically yaois market are women, and women likes yaoi cause they like to see men the one depicted as "timid and dominated" rather than women. Hence the cliche ukes.
But on the bright side yaois are hella popular now and theres more variety for everyone. People still enjoy this kind of cliche ukes so it will not go away anytime soon.
hello! ik im replying this late but im just here to share that im one of the ppl who likes yaoi only to see "timid and dominated" men. it's not in everyday life u see this irl (and i cant cuz personally, viewing irl ppl sexually in general is repulsing for me), and that's why i turned in here. so im one of the ppl hoping it wont go away. however, too much submissiveness of uke would cringe me ಥ‿ಥ
