Personally I think both are at fault. It's not Lyles or Ash's fault entirely as Lyle was obviously very nervous to meet Ash's friends and though it wasn't exactly said Ash's knew this. Additionally, Ash in his attempts to make Lyle feel better accidentally made him feel worse (with the sex joke and the hickey). However his friends bringing up his Ex completely worsened everything. Even with the mention Lyle became curious about this unknown person (as many would) but because Ash's obviously didn't want to talk about it, as he was probably scared to be seen as jealous.

But after learning more about hazel Lyle felt more insecure and jealous as it fed he learned that marriage was on the table in that relationship and they were bonded (which in the abo world honestly means something more than marriage in some). However stuff like that wasn't really mentioned to Lyle. But he didn't want to be seen as insecure so he put on an act like everything was fine, in that, putting on a face to everyone including Ash. Ash did notice something was wrong but he didn't know what to do.

Even now the only way I think this can be resolved is if Ash realizes the issue of Hazel was what was bothering if Lyle tells him himself, his friend let's Ash know, or if Ash realizes himself. But all that really need to happen is that they talk
