What's particularly stupid about this decision is that they haven't even met Anastasia yet, only know that she's alive. Leaving all together is dumb, but victims of abuse aren't known to be the most logical ya know.
It's really that she's leaving without even confirming that the sister is there to take the place. The mere fact that she's alive has triggered some abuse response that she needs to leave for her to take over. She's just been hard wired to give up for her sister
