Like i understand why they did this, but this is a very sensitive and complicated for the ML. He's a very traumatized and groomed person so he's not gonna react in the way a normal person is (saw some ppl day he should cut them off, he's not gonna do that)
These last 2 chapters really highlight it all. As fake as it was, this "semblance" of a family was his EVERYTHING. You can see from the beginning that he was doing everything to not jeapordize that (literally whole reason for the engagement). He's been controlled his whole life was to be what his "father" wanted him to be, basically an asset. He knew deep down it was fake, but he lived that lie because it was still his, it was still a "family" he can call his and theoretically fall back to. People he had in his life. He keeps saying "father has no luck with people" cause he's still thinking about him, about them.
But now he doesn't. The secretary that was always silently there, his "mother", and Ido, who was encouraging him to finally have his own dreams, betrayed him. They collaborated to take the one thing he had, even if it was for his own good. Even the brother he thought he had didn't see him as one. They forced him to face what he wanted to ignore, that he didn't have anything at all, cause not even the marriage is garunteed. He never had a family.

I love this. Exactly this. People complain or dictate how the ml should feel or how he should act, but in reality, this delves deep into trauma and emotional damage and the fact that the ml did not have a normal nor remotely healthy upbringing. The way he's reacting is pretty expected.
Asking that at the first meeting, business meeting in fact, is pretty crazy
