I still pity him. Why would I pity Lavini when she raised him into the selfish idiot he is. Everything he said about her was true he's just too stupid to understand that it was to his benefit as well. Astana may have turned out different if he was raised differently but he's not getting a chance to realize his mistakes or repent in this lifetime which is why I pity him.
I pity him for not having good parents or relatives.

Eva and him slept together, but she's not really shown as a love interest, just both of them using each other is probably the best way to put it.

Personally also don't like romance in stories like this, but I'm reading it so far, because I'm enjoying it and it hasn't strayed from that.
