I mostly see the kind of 'edgy' behaviour on teens, usually 15-18. I don't know about your experience with people suddenly becoming edgy when they turn 18 years old though, but I'm guessing they're probably actually younger teenagers posing as 18-year-olds so the internet has to accept them or something.

I personally prefer bl over gl. I'm not sure why but whenever I read a gl story, I want it to be something lighter and with less complications. With bl, I'm fine with anything, even the most fucked up plots out there.
