Banwoo is a loser. He is literally the infantilising male gaze personified. His obsession with Mian—I initially chalked it up to an unfortunate case of childhood trauma bonding. And yeah, to be honest, Mian is also uber-manipulative (she kind of had to be in order to stay sane). But the way Banwoo insists on doubling down and inserting himself into their relationship is just so XY chromosome of him. God forbid Mian has any clue what she wants (Haegu); his male brain can’t compute that this "Madonna" he has one-sidedly deified could be in love and choose him over the "monstrous whore" who, in his quite frankly, tiny horny mind, is undeserving of the love he sooo desires.
What he doesn’t realise is that Mian has a lot more in common with Haegu than he’s willing to admit (which is why they work so well together). But I suppose he’ll always struggle to compartmentalise that fact.
The Aesop fables he’s constructed in his head will soon fall apart. And he'll finally realise it in death, preferably at Mian’s hands.
